I just trashed my second one.
The first one stopped working a little after a year, the board in the scanner had some fried components on it...
I ordered a new one from Microtek, because when it worked, I did like the scanner. They shipped me a used one. When I complained they told me they test each machine before they ship it... The wear I saw on the machine they shipped me could not possibly be caused by a few test scans, also the wrapping looked used. Eventually they shipped me a replacement, which by the way, did not show the wear, and the wrapping was brand new).
After about a year and a half, I started smelling a burning odor, the smell of hot plastic. I determined it came from the scanner. The lamp did not go out anymore and the machine became extremely hot. The software would also not recognize the scanner anymore. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software. When the scanner is cold, after it has been powered off for a while, the software will recognize the scanner for a short period of time, but then that stops.
I am extremely disappointed to have spent $1700 for these two machines and got to use them (very very lightly I should add) for only 18 months each.
(yes, there is only a one year warranty)
