About the Author

Roberto Papini (1883–1957) was a noted art historian and critic. Throughout his distinguished career he held various important positions within the sphere of contemporary art, most importantly as the director of the Galleria comunale di Prato, Pinacoteca di Brera, and the Galleria Nazionale d’arte Moderna in Rome. His art criticism appeared in many journals and magazines and he also published several articles on urbanism.
