Excellent for beginners!, January 26, 2009
This review is from: Arturia Analog Factory Experience Soft Synth wit- Analog Synthesizers Sounds
PROS-
Very impressed with the midi controller. The quality and build of the controller is phenomenal. Most of the frame is made from metal, could take a serious beating!
Includes a wide array of knobs, sliders, and programmable buttons.
Its universal, which means you can use this with other software.
It has a vintage old school look, definitely very stunning.
Software has gives you thousands of sounds and options.
CONS-
The registration process was rather annoying.
You may have a bit of latency if you aren't running a higher end computer with some decent processing power.
Includes many vintage synth sounds but not a whole lot of new school ones (for dance and techno).
OTHER THOUGHTS-
Despite having latency, you can adjust the bit rate and drastically reduce lag (at a price for sound quality of course).
Despite lacking new school sounds you have the option to edit and modify each sound in any way shape or form. I just didn't feel like editing every sound and got sick of the latency (my fault really) so I bought a Korg and I'm switching over to Mac.
FINAL THOUGHTS-
overall a GREAT beginner's set if not the best for MIDI recording/ performance.
The reason why I didn't rate this lower is because the quality of the MIDI controller more than makes up for the mediocre software (great if you know what you're doing and have a decent computer). And because it's universal you can use any software you wish!

Evil Copy Protection! Limited Software! Junky Controller!, August 5, 2010
This review is from: Arturia Analog Factory Experience Soft Synth wit- Analog Synthesizers Sounds
I bought this specifically for my laptop; I already owned four Arturia synths on my home studio computer (a pre-pentium mac tower), and I still love them all. But that software wasn't compatible with my newer laptop, which I use for playing out of the house. So I chose to purchase Analog Factory, an attractive-sounding collection of highlights from all their synths, along with a sturdy wood-and-metal controller.
But I made the mistake of installing it on my mac tower first, and therefore I completely wasted my money; you can't put it on a second computer, and you can't get a refund once you've installed. If there was a warning somewhere in the instruction manual, I must have missed it. Why would I want Analog Factory on a computer that already runs Arturia's superior programs?
Which takes us to the software itself. It might be fun if you just want some preset sounds to goof around with, but if you're a creative synthesist, you'll quickly grow frustrated with the limitations. There's little more to than control than the cutoff filter or ASDR envelope.
And although I like the weight and feel of the controller, it's less than a year now that I've owned it (to control better synth plug-ins) and some of the keys are already dead. So my $300 two-and-a-half-octave midi controller is trash as well.
Arturia makes some great programs. Get their Minimoog or CS-80. But I highly recommend avoiding this one.

Beware of SyncSoft "copy" protection, April 12, 2008
This review is from: Arturia Analog Factory Experience Soft Synth wit- Analog Synthesizers Sounds
The software integration with the keyboard controller is nothing short of amazing. But beware the SyncSoft software used for controlling access to the software. Once you install and authorize the product you are forever locked to that ONE installation. If you have a problem and have to reinstall your OS, or if you lose access to that computer, you can not move the Analog Factory to another computer or re-install it on the existing computer.
