Clearheaded Writing,
By Kelvin Scott (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Arturo Toscanini: Contemporary Recollections of the Maestro (A Da Capo paperback) (Paperback)
So much nonsense has been written about Toscanini that it is a pleasure to have this double book available. Haggin may occasionally have been worshipful about Toscanini (tho not always), but he was always honest. Beautifully written.

Great read about great conductor,
This review is from: Arturo Toscanini: Contemporary Recollections of the Maestro (A Da Capo paperback) (Paperback)
This is a great read! It consists of two books. The first is Haggin's own recollections of conversations with Toscanini and of rehearsals and performances during most of Toscanini's career. It is insightful. The second is Haggin's interviews with many musicians who played under Toscanini. It is quite moving and instructive. Together, they constitute a readable and enjoyable book about a very great conductor and ultimately a very humble man.
