4.0 out of 5 stars No Problems!
This feeder has served us well for many years, and I am now ordering an additional one. Large capacity and truly squirrel-proof. The supplied rubber washer has always kept the seed dry in our location. I would prefer that the perches be metal, rather than plastic.

The "dramatic" dome does not keep out rain. There's a hole for the chain at the top! Rain invariably seeps in, so that the seed at the bottom, where the birds feed, rots. The "dramatic" dome does not keep out rain. There's a hole for the chain at the top! Rain invariably seeps in, so that the seed at the bottom, where the birds feed, rots. Even though this feeder holds so much, I sometimes have to take it down before it's empty to clean it. Admitedly, I live in Georgia, and we get torrential downpours. If you get only light showers, or live in a dry region, this may be the feeder for you.

However, the perches on the feeder are plastic, and are once again worn or broken. No one seems to want to stock them, so I'm on the internet looking for some. Amazon does not have them either. I'll continue my search. At some point, I'll continue my pathetic search for the perfect feeder.

Forget this one! the first fall from the tree and it is in pieces. The construction is entirely too fragile--only a very small wire holds it together inside and it easily falls apart. It does not matter if it keeps out the squirrels if the birds land and it crashes into smithereens.

2.0 out of 5 stars Yep, it's squirrel proof, but basically bird proof, too!, October 28, 2011

The birds have to sit on a tiny plastic perch then stick their heads into a hole to get to the food. Have had the feeder up for over a month and the birds haven't been able to empty even half the food. Think I'll go back to the old feeder for the winter so the poor things don't starve. This was an expensive mistake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Squirrel Proof Feeder on the Market, October 18, 2008

I have tried every squirrel proof feeder on the market over the past 35 years. This is the only one that truly works AND brings the birds in. Second place goes to the feeders that lower a block over the feed tray if the eater is too heavy. To properly use this feeder replace the flimsy wire on the top with a J hook. Get a stainless washer and wing nut to lift the bail inside the bucket up and close the lid. If you are mounting on a pole, you're finished. If you are mounting on a wire or chain, add a threaded coupler and another J hook or screw eye to attach to your chain. Take this note to your ACE hardware is this over complicates things. NO LEAKS, NO SQUIRRELS, no tops coming loose, simple to unscrew and refill. Occasionally you have to hose this guy out to get it clean. Sit in the sun for an hours and refill. I too thought that the bird rest was too flimsy, but after 8 years I finally broke the first one. Guess I'll have to spend a $1.25 to fix it. Got to go order another feeder. Those oval slot models look cute, but I bet the birds don't care.

3.0 out of 5 stars Doves can't access, April 21, 2010
This review is from: Arundale 150 Mandarin Wild Bird Feeder (Lawn & Patio)
My poor white winged dove tries to get seed from this feeder but is unable because the roof is too low - I wanted to deter squirrels not doves! I have now sent off for the expensive deep tray which attaches on the bottom but am not convinced this will solve the problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bird Feeder, March 18, 2010
We have always had a problem with squirrels getting the bird seed even though I feed the squirrels. This is our second feeder and it works the best. I had to move it twice because a squirrel was able to jump higher then the instructions said. I have a thick wire hanging down from a branch. I did have to use dowells to increase the length of the purches. Now I have four birds feeding most of the time with others waiting in near by trees for their turn. It has great capacity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Squirrel-proof. Spare parts available, January 5, 2010

1) This is really squirrel-proof when properly installed from a suspended wire. One of the only ones that is! (NOT when put on a post). The squirrels slide off every time!

2) The plastic is "recycled" Plexiglas. I'm all for recycling, but here this product will be exposed to years of ultraviolet light; recycled plastic will not be as degradation-resistant as virgin plastic unless they add back the UV stabilizers to the polymer mix (which I doubt). My last one, several years old, cracked spontaneously one day and shattered when it fell on the patio, apparently due to degradation of the plastic.

3) You can buy spare parts at very fair prices from the manufacturer, so consider buying just the replacement parts you need. (I forgot, and bought a whole new one).

4) The one with "dividers" (model 152) is best, and may cost no more than the same unit without (model 150): Arundale 152 Mandarin Wild Bird Feeder with Seed Dividers. The model with a tray at the bottom may be less squirrel-proof depending on your installation.

Had one for 5 years and squirrels never got a meal out of it. As hard as they try, they can't reach the seed and usually fall off in the process of trying and are so embarassed they don't try again. Rubber washer does split after awhile but a little duct tape easily keeps out water. If plastic perch breaks, replace with a nail or stiff wire. Recently bought another one that has the dividers for different kinds of seeds but found it does not seperate seed very well, so I don't use the dividers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Birds Galore, February 16, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This bird feeder is excellent, because of the large overhang on the top the seed stays dry after a rainfall. The seed capacity is very large so it does not have to be refilled so often. I have a friend who has had this feeder for twelve years. The birds love it, what more could you ask for.
