1) This is really squirrel-proof when properly installed from a suspended wire. One of the only feeders that truly is! (NOT when put on a post). The squirrels slide off every time.

2) The plastic is "recycled" Plexiglas. I'm all for recycling, but here this product will be exposed to years of ultraviolet light; recycled plastic will not be as degradation-resistant as virgin plastic unless they add back the UV stabilizers to the polymer mix (which I doubt). My last one, several years old, cracked spontaneously one day and shattered when it fell on the patio, apparently due to degradation of the plastic.

3) You can buy spare parts at very fair prices from the manufacturer, so consider buying just the replacement parts you need. (I forgot, and bought a whole new one).

4) The one with "dividers" is best: Arundale 152 Mandarin Wild Bird Feeder with Seed Dividers. The model with a tray at the bottom may be less squirrel-proof depending on your installation.

This feeder is so simple yet pretty and well-built (and designed). The bird didn't know what to do with it for the first day and they were munching on my other feeder but 2 days later, they were lined up to get on there! So cute! The only thing is that only 4 birds can feed at a time but they have an optional seed tray which I am thinking of getting so more birds can land on. No squirrels, no doves, less waste, less mess! Large capacity and almost no waste makes my job easier. No more filling the feeder every day! Woo Hoo!

Now.. If someone could share a secret on how to prevent/ get rid of bird dropping?, I would be all set. :)

I recieved this item from Amazon, it was packaged poorly and was broken. I informed amazon and returned item and had another one sent to my home. This item was also broken. I then just asked for my money back. Packaged poorly and easily breakable. D--

Old platform-style and tube-style feeders were regularly accessed by mice, rats & squirrels. The Arundale feeder's huge hood is large enough to thwart even the biggest squirrels in my area (Marin County, CA). My Arundale feeder hangs from a slat roof of our large garden arbor. It's been up for over 7 months and thus far, no mice, rats or squirrels!!! Additional advantage of this style feeder: the huge hood protects seed supply from rains and resultant rot and spoilage, even after a 35+/hr windy rainstorm. Plus, the large seed tub means I don't have to fill the tub so often. Clear see-through lets you know when you need to refill. Easy to clean and sterilize, compared to other seed feeders that have several components or moving parts or metal cages that need thorough scrubbing. No rusting parts, and it's UV proof. You may balk at the initial investment for this model feeder, but I think it's worth every penny. I plan to buy a couple more for other areas of our garden. Excellent gift idea for bird lovers.

We've had one of these feeders for the past 20 years. The original was smashed when a tree fell on our deck during the freak October 2011 snowstorm. This is a nice replacement. The birds are back---The feeder is always very busy, and the squirrels learned a long time ago that they get nothing here!!!
