Book Description

2004
"Arvid: Redefining the Modern Still Life" is a retrospective of the work of Thomas Arvid, foremost painter of still lifes featuring wine. For the last decade, Atlanta-based Arvid has created stunningly realistic, larger-than-life oil paintings that capture a familiar and delicious subject: wine and the pleasure that it brings to our lives. The full-color volume traces the development of Arvid's style from its beginnings a decade ago to the lifestyle it is today. It also offers a personal insight into the artist and his work with an insightful biography and personal commentary throughout the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fine look at "America's Preeminent Painter of Wine", December 16, 2004
This review is from: "Arvid: Redefining the Modern Still Life" (Hardcover)
All it takes is one look at an Arvid painting to realize that the man has an amazing eye. At first glance most people think that an Arvid painting is actually a photograph. Closer inspection reveals an amazing attention to detail, a fabulous sense of composition and an obvious appreciation for some of life's finer things. The book illustrates the development of Arvid's painting style and gives the reader a great glimpse into a unique artist. This would be a great gift!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great retrospective on a blossoming artistic career, January 10, 2005
This review is from: "Arvid: Redefining the Modern Still Life" (Hardcover)
Thomas Kincaid is referred to as "the painter of light". Thomas Arvid is now nationally known as the "painter of wine". Arvid's paintings are so vivid that they are easily mistaken for photographs. His style includes the deep rich true colors of the wines, bottles, and the paraphanilia associated with wine.

Named one of the top 25 artists in the U.S., Arvid is an amazing painter. He has a four year watining list for his originals. His limited edition giclees and artists proofs regularly sell out quickly.

I actually have three of his paintings and they are some of my most prized possessions.

I would love to have many more of his paintings, but cost and wallspace prohibit me from doing so at this time. However, receiving this book as a Christmas gift was a wonderful way to supplant those desires for the time being.

"Arvid: Redefining the Modern Still Life" is a comprehensive look at all of his work up until 2004 (which suprisingly is quite vast considering that he did not seriously start his wine art until around 2000). It has plenty of detailed information about the artist and his works and his philosophies plus almost all of his known wine art.

I encourage you to get a copy of this so that you can marvel at an artist who is surely destined to be considered a master.
