THEY ARE A MIX OF: PANTERA, HATEBREED, AND DEVILDRIVER! I RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM WHO ARE INTO THESE BANDS. I TOOK A CHANCE AND I AM VERY PLEASED!!! 4.0 out of 5 stars Skull crushing southern metal, June 7, 2008

This review is from: As the Coil Unwinds (Audio CD)
The Destro are a four piece band from Gainesville,Tx. They are a mix of southern groove and thrash metal along the lines of Pantera or Exhorder. Let me tell you that this album is great and is a must for anybody who is a fan of the previous bands I just mentioned. What is great about them is the overall intensity of the music that doesn't let up for a minute the whole cd. I love it and I know all of the guys in this band. I just saw them perform here in Austin and my roomate is friends with them so we let them crash at my house. Really nice guys and a really awesome band. Get it now.

Call yourself a metal a fan? Give "As the Coil Unwinds" a listen and I dare you to say it's not heavy enough. I've had this album in my car CD player for the last 3 months.

Because they're from Texas, I've read comparisons to Pantera and I just don't hear it. This album is original and the riffs are so choice, continued play is mandatory if you want to hear it all.

I saw The Destro's video on Headbangers Ball and bought the album online. Stop listening to weak metal, get blugeoned by the Destro.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Destro ~As the Coil Unwinds~, September 29, 2007
This review is from: As the Coil Unwinds (Audio CD)
The Destro are a metalcore band (despite what their press release would have us believe) that follows in the Unearth/Blood Has Been Shed direction. Their press release compares them to Napalm Death, Pantera and, Lamb of God.

I sort of hear it and kind of get it. The Destro fashion themselves very directly after southern metal legends, Pantera on this disc. You can hear the Phil Anselmo like screams and Abbot percussion in the chorus to "'Beast Burden," which sounds like it was taken from Pantera's ""Slaughtered"" off of Far Beyond Driven, or the overall Pantera sound in ""Knife in Hand."" The disc has a definitive southern metal swagger to it that, in this reviewers opinion, helps lift it a notch above the normal metalcore out there today.

The highlight of the disc is a sprawling nine minute instrumental that closes out the album called "Forever Embedded." This song doesn't drift too often into the southern metal style and stays rather atmospheric in its style--almost post hardcore to some extent but still, it's a slow burning, groove driven metal piece.

While many bands in this scene have been borrowing and taking a queue from Pantera for years, The Destro sound like they fill a niche that no one else is taking the gauntlet up for yet.
