screaming does not equal emotion,
By WhiteyWhitman (Nervous in Suburbia) - See all my reviews

Don't believe the negative reviews about this CD. Just because a singer actually sings doesn't mean that the songs are any less emotional. Granted, the songs on this CD are more palpable than their previous efforts but that doesn't make the band any less "punk" or the songs any less brilliant. Against Me! is still way better than most of the schlock that's out there in the "punk" scene or any other scene for that matter.

Good Stuff,
By Jeremy (Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: As the Eternal Cowboy (Audio CD)
This Cd, unlike what the other two reviews say, is nothing like older against me. The new cd is more polished and the vocals sound like a different person altogether. But other than this large differences the album is great.I like older against me but this is great in its own way.

Fantastic.,
This review is from: As the Eternal Cowboy (Audio CD)
This was my first Against Me! album. A friend of mine made me a mix that had "Cliche Guevara" on it, and I was hooked to that song. I immediately went out and bought this cd and I was just blown away. I was expecting more of the sloppy, rawness of "Cliche", but I instead I was suprised to hear a lot of acoustics and a lot of great musicianship.
See, that's one thing that seperates Against Me! from most punk bands: These guys can play their instruments. It's not just powerchords and crappy solos. Highlights are the aforementioned Cliche Guevara, Sink Florida Sink, Rice and Bread, You Look Like I need a Drink, Turn those Clapping Hands into angry fists, and the beautiful closer "Cavalier Eternal". Now, is this as good as Reinventing Axl Rose? I don't know, you be the judge. In terms of musicianship and quality, I'd say so. But a lot of the energy, passion, and sloppiness that you hear on RAR is lacking on this album, and that's one of it's only downfalls. All in all, this is a great album. Buy it! Also, go out and see these guys live, they will BLOW YOU AWAY.
