screaming does not equal emotion,

Don't believe the negative reviews about this CD. Just because a singer actually sings doesn't mean that the songs are any less emotional. Granted, the songs on this CD are more palpable than their previous efforts but that doesn't make the band any less "punk" or the songs any less brilliant. Against Me! is still way better than most of the schlock that's out there in the "punk" scene or any other scene for that matter.

Good Stuff,

This Cd, unlike what the other two reviews say, is nothing like older against me. The new cd is more polished and the vocals sound like a different person altogether. But other than this large differences the album is great.I like older against me but this is great in its own way.

Fantastic.,

This was my first Against Me! album. A friend of mine made me a mix that had "Cliche Guevara" on it, and I was hooked to that song. I immediately went out and bought this cd and I was just blown away. I was expecting more of the sloppy, rawness of "Cliche", but I instead I was suprised to hear a lot of acoustics and a lot of great musicianship.
See, that's one thing that seperates Against Me! from most punk bands: These guys can play their instruments. It's not just powerchords and crappy solos. Highlights are the aforementioned Cliche Guevara, Sink Florida Sink, Rice and Bread, You Look Like I need a Drink, Turn those Clapping Hands into angry fists, and the beautiful closer "Cavalier Eternal". Now, is this as good as Reinventing Axl Rose? I don't know, you be the judge. In terms of musicianship and quality, I'd say so. But a lot of the energy, passion, and sloppiness that you hear on RAR is lacking on this album, and that's one of it's only downfalls. All in all, this is a great album. Buy it! Also, go out and see these guys live, they will BLOW YOU AWAY.

wow, ok, where to begin, Against Me! is simply amazing this album is awesome! Some people complain that it's sounds over produced compared to reinventing axl rose, but it's still against me! the more i listen to the album the better it gets. They are awesome, and if you like there albums, you should see them live cause they're even better.

So I hadn't ever heard Against Me until I saw them open for Anti-Flag recently, but was so impressed that my husband and I decided to buy their latest CD. This is the only one I've heard, but I absolutley love it. There are quite a few acoustic tracks on it, and it really adds a nice mix to the sound. It wasn't quite what I was expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised. And it seemed to sound better and better the more I listened to it. Now I can't wait to get to see them again.

Pulls through in the end.,

I heard the instrumental on this album and shook my head. Against Me! rocking out an instrumental is not typical, and at first I was skeptical. The songwriting didn't seem up to par. The music chugged a little too much, seemed a bit too polish for Against Me!.But as I listened more and more to the disc, and the songs began spiraling in my head, I realized "As the Eternal Cowboy" is a fitting progression for Against Me!. It's polished but not glossy; this sounds like punk with a budget, rather than a budget with punk in mind. It's "Calvalier Eternal" which utimately saves the album, though. This is pure Against Me!, and the songwriting drips with attitude. It's the sort of genre-defying song the band has come to be known for producing, and a solemn oath that they will never change, no matter how big the budget or the blurb in Spin is.

Rockin the revolution,

I am fan of against me and, yes this C.D. has a new sound to it that is a little more produced and clean, but it is still Iin-your-face anti-capitalism revolutionary rock at its greatest..I also have seen them live since the new release and the new stuff fits right in with the old..BABY IM AN ANARCHIST!

While most people seem to bash this albulm b/c it doesnt sound like old Against Me, dont listen to them. This is an excellent release combining almost country-folkish ballads with classic punk. The soulful vocals and unique lyrics break a mold that most punk bands and punk fans can't. Give it a shot, you wont be disappointed

Best punk record of 2003!,
By A Customer
This review is from: As the Eternal Cowboy (Audio CD)
Soemhow these guys managed to outdo themselves after the amazing "Reinventing" LP. Despite all the talk about Fat, this record sounds like classic AM! and will not disappoint hardcore fans. It's an amazing record with songs that surpass what a punk band should be capable of creating, it's crazy. Any fan of punk, Against Me!, or good music must check out this record...you'll thank me!
