The Making Of "White Crosses"

Before becoming a full-fledged punk band, Against Me! was an acoustic solo project spearheaded by Laura Jane Grace, who began playing shows as a 17-year-old in Gainesville, Florida. Starting in 1997, Grace performed as a solo act wherever anyone would have her, drawing much influence from early acoustic protest music. By 2001, she'd beefed up her sound with the help of a full band -- ... Read more in Amazon's Against Me! Store

5.0 out of 5 stars screaming does not equal emotion June 4, 2004
Format:Audio CD
Don't believe the negative reviews about this CD. Just because a singer actually sings doesn't mean that the songs are any less emotional. Granted, the songs on this CD are more palpable than their previous efforts but that doesn't make the band any less "punk" or the songs any less brilliant. Against Me! is still way better than most of the schlock that's out there in the "punk" scene or any other scene for that matter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff November 12, 2003
By Jeremy
Format:Audio CD
This Cd, unlike what the other two reviews say, is nothing like older against me. The new cd is more polished and the vocals sound like a different person altogether. But other than this large differences the album is great.I like older against me but this is great in its own way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pulls through in the end. December 18, 2003
By Josh
Format:Audio CD
I heard the instrumental on this album and shook my head. Against Me! rocking out an instrumental is not typical, and at first I was skeptical. The songwriting didn't seem up to par. The music chugged a little too much, seemed a bit too polish for Against Me!.
But as I listened more and more to the disc, and the songs began spiraling in my head, I realized "As the Eternal Cowboy" is a fitting progression for Against Me!. It's polished but not glossy; this sounds like punk with a budget, rather than a budget with punk in mind.
It's "Calvalier Eternal" which utimately saves the album, though. This is pure Against Me!, and the songwriting drips with attitude. It's the sort of genre-defying song the band has come to be known for producing, and a solemn oath that they will never change, no matter how big the budget or the blurb in Spin is.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent purchase November 6, 2003
Format:Audio CD
this was another good release by against me! i picked this up today after hearing one of their songs online. ive given it a few listens and decided that the only thing that i didnt like was the fast that it was 25 min. i wish there was more because i love against me. it was similar to "reinventing.." but the songs didnt seem as choppy as some on the older cds. the vocals seemed a little better and so did the lyrics. if you liked "reinventing.." you will probly like this. if you havent heard against me yet, try one of their others before this for a true feel of their music.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it. December 31, 2003
Format:Audio CD
So I hadn't ever heard Against Me until I saw them open for Anti-Flag recently, but was so impressed that my husband and I decided to buy their latest CD. This is the only one I've heard, but I absolutley love it. There are quite a few acoustic tracks on it, and it really adds a nice mix to the sound. It wasn't quite what I was expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised. And it seemed to sound better and better the more I listened to it. Now I can't wait to get to see them again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best punk record of 2003! November 6, 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Soemhow these guys managed to outdo themselves after the amazing "Reinventing" LP. Despite all the talk about Fat, this record sounds like classic AM! and will not disappoint hardcore fans. It's an amazing record with songs that surpass what a punk band should be capable of creating, it's crazy. Any fan of punk, Against Me!, or good music must check out this'll thank me!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest bands January 27, 2004
Format:Audio CD
wow, ok, where to begin, Against Me! is simply amazing this album is awesome! Some people complain that it's sounds over produced compared to reinventing axl rose, but it's still against me! the more i listen to the album the better it gets. They are awesome, and if you like there albums, you should see them live cause they're even better.

4.0 out of 5 stars GIve it a chance...its good November 24, 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
While most people seem to bash this albulm b/c it doesnt sound like old Against Me, dont listen to them. This is an excellent release combining almost country-folkish ballads with classic punk. The soulful vocals and unique lyrics break a mold that most punk bands and punk fans can't. Give it a shot, you wont be disappointed

4.0 out of 5 stars aight, but it aint Reinventing Axl Rose
these songs are a lil more catchy but lyrics aren't nearly as touching as previous releases, especially Reinventing Axl Rose. Check that one out if you're ready to be stupified.
