Solid Debut,

First off, let me say that I am not a fan of music like this usually. But this band hit me in a way I really can't describe. Good breakdowns and smooth screaming voice that doesn't overtone the actual singing. Also love the "dreamy" digital beats. All in all a good CD. Every beat in my opinion is catchy and lyrics are complex which I enjoy.

I've always been a fan of the post-hardcore/emo rock scene. Bands such as Secret and Whisper, A Skylit Drive, Emarosa, Circa, and others, have really become my preference when purchasing albums. I found Of Machines on myspace after spotting them on Rise Records' website. I must say, this group has the potential to be REALLY big. They have the aggressive, technical sound that is all the rage right now. Fast, intricate drum tracking with guitar-work I'd compare to Saosin's original EP Translating the Name. Very "dreamy" and echoed. Vocally, Of Machines delivers beautifully. The screamer has a higher range, which I prefer, and the "smooth singer" hits notes I'd compare to Charles Furney of Secret and Whisper.
All in all this album scores an A- on my scale. The album could stand to add two more solid tracks (a couple of the tracks are instrumental "lead-ins"), but I won't fault the guys. The music they are writing is very intricate and thus takes much longer to compose. I recommend this CD to anyone who is a fan of the bands I listed previously. You will love Of Machines.

This album has it all. A bit of metalcore with some very nice screaming and masterfully produced. The vocals are incredible...very sick guitar effects going on in this album.
My favs: An autobiography (gutwrenching raw emotion in this one...love it) It must belong somewhere Sailing Alone Becoming closer to closure Weaving the values (awesome mix of synth and guitars) |
