5.0 out of 5 stars A quest to construct the perfect mix
Soulwax members Stephen and David Dewaele (2 Many DJ's) created a series of radio-show mix sessions, few, if any were recorded live; which is somewhat obvious, since the mixes are so tight and precise. They use the glory of computer processing and editing software to deconstruct pop music from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s into exciting new directions. Due to licensing...

5.0 out of 5 stars A quest to construct the perfect mix, October 27, 2004
This review is from: As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt 2 (Audio CD)
Soulwax members Stephen and David Dewaele (2 Many DJ's) created a series of radio-show mix sessions, few, if any were recorded live; which is somewhat obvious, since the mixes are so tight and precise. They use the glory of computer processing and editing software to deconstruct pop music from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s into exciting new directions. Due to licensing impossibilities, the mixes are sadly only available as import only releases, fully licensed and bonded for the Benelux countries alone, which means we just have to pay more for them.

Spanning 30 tracks in just 60 minutes, these complex jaw dropping mixes pass quickly, leaving the desire for repeat listening. One may think that mixing 3 records together at once would leave a cluttered mess, if so, reevaluate the way you think. These mixes are tightly produced using computer software, leaving no sloppy, ill timed mixes behind. The sound is much better than your average exclusive mixes you may have heard for internet radio stations.

Mixing an equal number of underground techno records, with pop music makes for a perfect balance. The track listing above isn't very accurate, so don't get confused by my following comments. The opener, a mix of Emerson Lake and Palmer's live version of "Peter Gun" and Basement Jaxx's "Wheres Your Head At" is a larger than life intro for the album. The Velvet Underground's "I'm Waiting For The Man" is equally satisfying. Ready For The World's "Oh Sheila" mixes in some sweet percussion. It's amazing how seamlessly they mixed "Independent Women" by Destiny's Child with Dolly Parton's "9 to 5". Also not listed above, Michael Jackson's "Billi Jean" also gets mixed in. My personal favorite mix is Skee Lo's "I Wish" mixed with "Cannonball" by the Breeders. This mix is similar to The Avalanches' "Gimix", also mixing in "Sandwiches" by Detroit Grand Pubahs.

Overall, 2 Many DJ's resets the standards of what you can do with mixing, turning it into an exhilarating art form. This CD has something for underground gurus and pop junkies alike. It's spreading like wildfire among my friends; they just got to have it after they hear it. If you're drooling as you read the track listing above, asking yourself - I wonder if it sounds a great as it looks, the answer is YES.

5.0 out of 5 stars David Bowie Loves It!, August 13, 2005

I am an ex-brit and occasionally listen to radio interviews via internet from the UK. I heard David Bowie raving about this CD last year, and I promptly bought it. It's fascinating both musically and technically and is a fantastic party CD. If you're into one-of-a-kind mixed CDs this can only be appreciated by listening to it. Truly innovative.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best CD I've Bought in Years, August 2, 2003

This album will delight anyone with ears. The DJ scene, the gays, the 13-year old girls, anyone who went to a disco in the seventies, anyone who has ever listened to the radio... all will love this album. You can't go wrong here.
Perhaps the biggest eyebrow raiser of the disc is the Dolly Parton sample, but I assure you, it's the high-point of the whole disc. When it segues from Independent Women to 9 to 5, it's as if soul sisters Dolly and Beyonce' always intended for it to be that way.

And lest we forget the hidden Kylie Minogue remix at the beginning, which is not only exciting because it's Kylie Minogue, but for a song that was remixed to death, herein lies the greatest mix of them all. Even Kylie herself performed this mix in her final live performance to promote her 'Fever' album.

Just buy it. If you don't like it, e-mail me and I'll buy it from you, as I'm sure I'll be needing more copies of it in my lifetime.

I had no idea this genra existed till this CD. I've since hunted down every song that soulwax has done. Marvy! They even remix their own alternative songs. Great tallent. Great for work outs. Great for getting into a good mood after a long day at work.

Who'da thunk Dolly Parton could sound so good with Royksopp's beat underneath? Destiny's Child funk styling or Rock'n'Roll Salt'n'Peppa. Love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never too many, December 11, 2002
This review is from: As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt 2 (Audio CD)
I must have heard this mix a hundred times in the past three months (it appears to have stuck in my car's tape player, my car has taste at least). I never seem to get bored with it and have gone through the immense joy of hearing my friends ask, "Is that Dolly ...Parton? Oh... wait, this is really good. Who is this?"

I don't think I need to say much more than that. If you thought Kylie's 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' was as good as she got (give or take the Fischerspooner remix of 'Come Into My World'), find yourself Track -1.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Way Forward, April 29, 2003

This album is probably the coolest thing I've heard in the last three years. Without a pause between any tracks, it is quite literally an adventure from start to finish. In some ways, it is the Sgt. Pepper of today! Vastly understated, 2ManyDJs is a french-plat of intertwined styles, beats, tempos, sounds samples and any other little term I'm leaving out. In some ways, DJ-ing is old hat, but this is so listener-friendly its not funny. When you hear Dolly Parton mixed perfectly with Royksopp, you'll know exactly what I mean! Don't just check it out - Get It!

This Mix Album [title on CD] rocks! There's also a really 'ruff mix' of Kylie's "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" BEFORE the 1st track. The hidden track doesn't play on the PC though or on my car stereo, but I heard it on my home stereo... you'll need to press the 'skip backwards' at the beginning to find it...P>Also look for Nirvana & Destiny's Childs' "Smells Like Booty" MP3 download at your fave MP3 app. I don't really care for the 2 bands personally, but it's good to hear the combo.

GET THIS & CRANK IT UP!!!!

Extremely fast shipping! Product exactly as described. Despite the toad outbreak at the facility, my purchase arrived in 2 days, completely amphibian-free.
Definitely going to purchase from this seller again. The sense of humor in the confirmation email made my day.
