5.0 out of 5 stars Josie is a Female Hank Williams Sr!!!, October 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: As Is (Audio CD)
I heard Josie's new cd was more country roots then her first one but I bought it anyway. Well, I wasn't disappointed!!!! This chick can make anyone like country music because hers is so rockabilly fresh compared to the new country that all sounds alike. The cover design and sounds within all are so cool vintage, you'd swear it was an old 78. Josie shatters all stereotypes, THIS is THE cd 2000! BUY IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm So Lonesome I Could Dance..., October 15, 2002

Josie has a voice that makes you feel like moping even on the happy songs... Hank Sr. had that ability... and this music is probably as close to old Hank as anything produced in the last 50 years. Pure, clear, well written, well played, well sang... traditional music. I wouldn't call this roots country, a better name is retro country... you won't find the little rock influences you find in BR-549 or Hillbilly Hellcats or others now producing purer country... Josie is not copying old country, she IS old country.

Some of the better songs are Too Many Mistakes... I defy anyone to listen to this song without getting a sore neck from bobbing your head along with the clicking rhythm; Ain't Got a Clue is probably as close to rockabilly as this cd gets, it's catchy, moderately fast, and Josie has that little rockabilly squeal down to an art form. It's actually very hard to pick out individual songs on this cd, because there's not a single bad song. But, Josie's voice on Wild Fire can certainly start more than her fair share in a lot of guys' hearts.

As for musicianship, this cd ranks at the very top... no Nashville studio clones could play more flawlessly than Josie's backup band on this cd...

I must confess, I HATE country music as a general rule... but, I love this cd... this is not really country music, this is music as primal as a man's first utterances and as necessary as the discovery of fire, as old as the hills and as fresh as spring flowers...

5.0 out of 5 stars Red hot rockabilly mama!!!, September 2, 2005
This review is from: As Is (Audio CD)
She sings & plays every bit as pretty as she looks!!! She is a cross between Wanda Jackson and Etta James!!! She can sing backed by a jazzy rhythm guitar, or blues, just as easily as by a honky tonk rockabilly combo! She plays rhythm guitar very well, and has a very expressive vocie!!! Great music that all sounds like it was recorded before 1956.
