This has it all,

This review is from: As I Lay Dying: This is Who We Are (DVD)
Disc one = a documentary on the band from the very beginning to the present. It is very detailed. However, in my opinion it spends too much time talking about all of the different lineups they had up until Shadows are Security came out. That gets a little redundant. Tim says that the band started when he approched Jordan and said he wanted to start a full-time band with "this philosophy," and Jordan agreed. They don't say what that is, though. That was disappointing. I would've been really interested in that. The best part of the documentary for me is when they talk about all of the different tours they've been on. It's really cool to see not only how their tours have gotten bigger and bigger, but also the number of different kinds of heavy bands they've toured with. It was also cool for me to remember those different tours, as I attended several of them.
Disc two = the live show. It is totally unique in that, even though all of the stuff on this disc was recorded in 2008 after the band was already established, it is shown like you are seeing the band from the early dayes to the present. The first few songs are recorded at a church during a show where they played FRAIL WORDS COLLAPSE in its entirety. The next few songs are from a small bar show in their hometown where they did SHADOWS ARE SECURITY in its entirety. The next several songs are from a show in Aneheim in front of a few thousand people, and then this disc concludes with songs performed at big outdoor festivals in front of tens of thousands of people. They really put the live disc together well. It is awesome. As I Lay Dying is really a great live band. They have so much energy, and their live show never lets up from start to finish. disc three = the music videos and bonus features. To me, the bonus features are the absolute highlight of this 3-disc set. They talk about the meanings of a bunch of their songs, which in my opinion is what makes them such an awesome metal band. Their lyrics are amazing. They're so much more than another heavy band w/ screaming, riffs, and breakdowns. There is also a section where they make fun of their stage moves. They have a section talking about their fans. There is also a really interesting section where they talk about being a Christian metal band and what's that like, both for them and the non-Christian bands that they tour with. Check out this DVD. It's got everything... a long documentary, an amazing live disc, great bonus features, and all of their music videos. As I Lay Dying is on tour right now w/ Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, Municipal Waste, and God Forbid. Check out that tour if you can. I'm not a huge Bodom fan, but the rest of the lineup is killer.

Buy it for the live footage,

This review is from: As I Lay Dying: This is Who We Are (DVD)
As I Lay Dying is a bright spot in the often tedious world of metalcore. This 3 disc DVD set contains a documentary about the band's history on disc 1, live sets on disc 2, and music videos on disc 3. The documentary is enjoyable, but may only be so for hardcore AILD fans. You may have seen the music videos on Fuse, and they're all here. The best disc is disc 2, which contains live footage from several shows starting at small venues and working up to larger ones. The sound quality is fantastic and the energy is amazing. Buy this DVD and go see them live.

The first 2 disks alone are worth the price!,
This review is from: As I Lay Dying: This is Who We Are (DVD)
The only thing I would say would improve upon the excellence of this release is if it were released in Blu Ray. Other than that, this is probably the best band-based Documentary ever released simply due to the sheer amount and enjoyability of the content. The first disk is approx. 2 hours of documentary-style, behind the scenes footage, the second disk is 16 live performances, all of which are simply amazing and breath-taking (they ARE AILD). The third disk is a handful of music videos (I believe all of the videos they have relesed thus far) and other bonus features out of which you'll get a kick. For the price, or even if it were more expensive, you get your worth in spades! This is doubtlessly an absolute must-buy for all AILD fans. If only other band's DVD's were done this well!

No matter you've been listening to this amazing band for 5 years or 5 months and if you're a real fan, you MUST get this DVD. 3 discs describing AILD from A to Z, perfectly edited chronicles, interesting comments, footage, live performances, you will get to know each member of a band, but above all this I appreciate that this DVD highlights their personalities, traits and lets you see them as modest, down to earth and industrious guys.
You don't have your own copy yet? what are you waiting for? :))

I've been following As I Lay Dying for quite some time now, and I am so stoked that they finally released something like this. This DVD is absolutely amazing. The live performances are incredible, plus it's a mix of several different venues (some very small, others very large). It has all the kick-@$$ music videos and of course an awesome documentary of how they came to be. I actually didn't wait to get this DVD, so I paid like $35 for it- I would've paid 45 for it. It's that good! In closing, but their new cd. It is unlike any of the others- in a damn good way!

Disc one was pretty cool; it's basically a documentary about the band. I had no idea that they went through so many line-up changes in the early years. Disc two is live footage, which was good. These guys tour all the time. Their manager actually had to pull them off the road so that they wouldn't burn out. Disc 3 was videos and stuff (meh, whatever). Any hard-core AILD fan will enjoy this. The sound and video quality of the live footage is really good.
Recommended.

Holy crap. Ladies and gentleman. This is it. THE definitive DVD for any fan of AILD. There are 3 discs contained in this DVD set. The first disc is called "This is Who We Are... From The Beginning", it's basically the story of the band told from the perspectives of the band mambers both past and present. It gives an in-depth look at the band and the views that they all have on the band. Disc 2 is called "This is Who We Are... Now", which is a bunch of live shows they did. They were obviously on an amazing sound stage because there is no audience sounds and all of the instruments sound crisp and amazing, and Tim's voice sounds as amazing as ever. Disc 3 is called "This is Who We Are", and it contains some awesome music videos and some bonus features. This collection is an essential and a must-have for fans and those who are curious alike.

This DVD collection has it all!!! A documentary with an inside look at how far they have come and all the changes they have undergone through the years, Live concerts performances from all over the world following that progression and growth, and all their music videos to date and explanations of a bunch of their songs! In fact the only thing I found disappointing was the fact that though the collection is called "This is who we are" the song "This is who we are" isn't featured in it. Other than that this thing is a solid win. Any true As I Lay Dying fan will LOVE this collection!

The sound quality is excellent, the video is well filmed and quite clear. The band is tight and focused in their concerts, and they nail some really technical parts in their performance. There is a lot of variety to the performances captured, from a church to a small club, to a concert hall, to large festivals, and the band brings a lot of energy to each performance. This probably will end up being one of the best DVDs of the year. Whether you are already an AILD fan, or are a fan of good metal, you'll find this to be a good buy. I actually wish that there were an audio-only version of the shows, it is that good.

Good, but why not share every song?,
This review is from: As I Lay Dying: This is Who We Are (DVD)
Disc 2 is great, the live footage is well-done and the audio quality is absolutely flawless. I'm just wondering, since they made a deal out of how they played the entire albums at the shows, why do they only show a few select songs from each album? I would have preferred a disc of select songs mixed in with documentary stuff like they did, but one disc should have just been every song one after the other. Or maybe they could have included audio cd's of their albums played live. Any great band needs to have their pivotal live recordings.
