About the Author

Born in 1864 in England, James Allen took his first job at fifteen to support his family. Allen worked as a factory knitter and later a private secretary before writing his first book, "From Poverty to Power", in 1901. In 1903 he completed his best-known work: "As a Man Thinketh". Allen wrote nineteen books, including his spiritual journal, "The Light of Reason, "before he died at age forty-seven in 1912. While not widely known during his lifetime, Allen later came to be seen as a pioneer of contemporary inspirational literature.

This is usually the first books I hand out when life coaching or just generally trying to help someone see clearer. I love the concept of choice and our choices are birth out of our thoughts. This book helps to show how life change is truly possible if we're willing to change our thinking. It has blessed me and I pray that it will bless you as well. N-Joy & B Blessed.

James Allen's advice is eloquent and inspirational, my only caution would be that the Universe seems deterministic at times.
Man does not completely control his circumstances, yet he control his Spirit in relation to these circumstances
In some ways kind of a parallel to the Stoics: -"My dear Lucillus make this your business in life, Learn how to feel Joy" Seneca
"Your mind has been given the fortitude and armor to withstand everything" Seneca
"Act is the blossom of thought, thus does a man garner in the sweet and bitter fruitage of his own husbandry" James Allen
"The Joy of a wise man stands firm without interruption, in all places, at all times his thoughts are cheerful and quiet " Seneca
"For only by patience, practice, and ceaseless importunity does a man approach the door to the temple of Wisdom" James Allen
A book that examines the Spiritual Nature of Joy, Pain, Achievement, Love, Suffering, and Eternal Truths

I have been reading this little booklet for many years. My original one (a little yellow one) that I purchased over 30 years ago was so worn and missing a page. So I purchased this one because I liked the introduction. I just ordered another one for friend.

The basic tenets are sound, however trodding through the language of the 19th century is difficult. I recommend a good english dictionary while reading this work.
