4.0 out of 5 stars Great Study Tool
When I saw this book, I wasn't quite sure about it but figured I would try it. I used it to prepare for my CAPM exam and found it to be an invaluable tool to test my knowledge of the PMBOK. Using this guide in conjunction with reading the PMBOK really helped ensure my success on the CAPM exam. I have since recommended it to others as part of their study.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for PMP
Be warned that it doesn't contain the same type of situational questions that you will find in the PMP test. While these simple questions about concepts in the PMBOK might help you to practice for the CAPM test, the author doesn't even claim that the book will help you prepare for any test.

I bought this little book because I wanted to practice a little more, and because it was on sale. I finished it in less than two hours and never touched it again. A 100% success rate with these easy questions doesn't mean that you are prepared to pass the PMP test.

4.0 out of 5 stars Execellent Resource, July 8, 2007
This review is from: Q & A's for the PMBOK Guide (Spiral-bound)
This is an excellent resource that will help you understand and review several concepts in the PMBOK Guide. The only problem is that the answers provide quotes from the PMBOK Guide and no explanations. The questions are simplistic: may be good for the CAPM exam, but not for the PMP exam.
To prepare for the PMP Exam, I used the PMP Exam Quicklet by Paul Sanghera, which contains very realistic questions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Better Than The Source!, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Q & A's for the PMBOK Guide (Spiral-bound)
I started off taking the classes to get my 23 credits to qualify for the CAPM exam. After I finished the schooling and started taking practice test I found I wasn't getting enough of the answers right. The second thing I did was order the Aileen exam prep guide and some flashcards but I ran into the same problem as before lol.

I always heard that the PMBOK is so hard to understand etc. When I actually took the time to read it for myself I found it informative. It's not something you read in a sitting but it's not impassible. I was reading a little each day and as of this writing on the last the chapter of the book.

Buying test prep materials is tricky because some authors give you their watered down version of the PMBOK but when the test comes they are testing on the words phases and process from the PMBOK not someone else's rendition of the book.

It's worth the investment. You can finish it in a month there are only 12 chapters. I recommend you do nothing but read the book first. Second take the classes/training. Third order a test prep book and flash cards.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reading this book on Kindle, July 31, 2011

In summary, its a nightmare. Its not the book's fault, rather than the media. Here is how it works -

You answer questions from the book
Now you need to scroll to the answer to verify if they are correct (Scroll/Search/TOC - tedious)
When you get to the answer, you will notice that the questions are not part of the answer
So now you need to go back to refresh your memory on what the question was (again scroll/search/TOC)
You need to do this for over and over again

Again, its a good book but buy the hard copy not the kindle format.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tool for preparing for the CAPM, December 8, 2009

I am preparing for the CAPM exam. I was disappointed that many of the choices within the questions were obviously not correct. Most questions it was easy to pick out the right answer. I doubt if the CAPM exam will be this easy. With that said, "trick" questions are not a good teaching tool either. Questions that are thought provoking would have been more helpful. This book is one of many tools that I am using to prepare, although helpful, not certain if worth the money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fine as a first time lightweight review of a PMBOK chapter, but not at all close to the real PMP exam questions, December 19, 2008

This review is from: Q & A's for the PMBOK Guide (Spiral-bound)
I found the questions in this book to be way easier than questions from other study books and preparation tests, and quite far from the situational questions that you get on the real PMP exam.

I would say that as a very lightweight first time review (through a set of questions) for a particular chapter of the PMBOK, this books is fine, but is far from what you'll get in reality on the PMP exam. I used it like that and got almost all the questions right. Just make sure you don't get fooled by that and that you are ready for the exam if you get that.

I found quite detrimental that the questions were organized by chapters and not mixed up as a single 200 question set as you get them on the exam. I guess the purpose of the book is not to be a PMP exam test example, just a bunch of Q&As, so just be aware of this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource to reinforce PMI Knowledgebase, April 16, 2008

This book provides some excellent Project Management questions with detailed explanation of the right AND wrong answers following PMBOK book. This material will help reinforce the right PMI methodology and best practices.

This book is a valuable tool for preparing for the PMP exam. While the actual questions are atypical of the actual PMP Certification Exam, this book provides a great opportunity to reinforce learnings from the PMI's PMBOK Guide. The book is set up and laid out by each corresponding chapter making in it easy to navigate and use as a reference later for exam preparation.

My book arrived in perfect condition and on time. I used this to take the PMP exam and I passed the first time. I read it 3 times total. It is a dry read but worth the effort.
