4.0 out of 5 stars Improving on their comeback years..., July 26, 2006
By David Falzano (Boston, MA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The title of this review stands true as Grave returns with their 3rd comeback release 'As Rapture Comes.' It seems that Grave manages to get closer to their earlier sound (80s & 90s) each album since 'Back from the Grave' & comes close at times & dare I say, even right on the mark on this release; and boy this was desperately needed. Not to say that the last 2 albums were bad, they were great but they were often mid-paced throughout & they even managed to get even SLOWER at times & it sometimes would make you lose interest. On 'As Rapture Comes' you will still hear some of those similarities from the last 2 Grave releases but as I was eluding to, this time there are faster songs but even heavier than on the early Grave albums which makes for a much better listen! Look out, Grave is back w/ a vengeance...and folks the GODLY Peter Tagtgren is back as producer so there is no need to fear! Metal at it's heaviest!

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to crushing!!!!!, August 1, 2006

The mighty Grave is back with a vengeance. The last album "Fiendish regresion" was a solid piece of death metal, but not great. Now, with "As rapture comes" Grave back to their basic sound, raw and primitive, their own sound and with albums like "Kill" by Cannibal Corpse the competition is simply tough. This album is great in every sense, great guitar work, incredible solos and solid drumms. So if you want another incredible death metal release, try this album.

3.0 out of 5 stars , August 28, 2006
This review is from: As Rapture Comes (Audio CD)
Veterans of the death metal genre, Grave, has unleashed another cool album that isn't afraid to add groove to death metal and make it sound good (which usually isn't the case). Thankfully, we have no melody, no nice moments, no keyboards, this is straight ahead death metal that still sounds lethal in the year 2006. Grave are great in creating headbanging moments through catchy hooks, while the brutality of the music remains intact. The only downside to this disc is their cover of Alice in Chains' "Them Bones". Why? Not that AIN were a great band in the first place, but that song is simply horrible and giving it the death metal touch doesn't help its cause. Aside from this, the album delivers what you'd expect from Grave.
