4.0 out of 5 stars Just love this CD...
This album is an awful lot of fun...it's a crazy blend of genres that all work pretty well together. Granted, it may provoke images of cars and bootleg jeans, but I think we can get over that :) I think a lot of people bought this album looking for "that song from the Mitsubishi commercial", and the one on here (Groove Armada) probably isn't it - you want "Start the...

3.0 out of 5 stars A latent effect of another quirky quest
Had it not been for a Volkswagon commercial, I probably wouldn't have discovered this perky little CD. I was actually on a quest to findout who preformed the song on a Volkswagon commercial with a guy going through the same motions over and over in his office, which turned out to be "Mr. Blue Sky" by ELO. Having found this in the soundtrack bins at the local record...

Other than that, I'd definitely recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Turn It Up, Baby!, August 13, 2001

Don't reject this cd simply because it is a compilation of songs from TV-- the fact that this is a good cd simply reflects the fact that directors are using better music in advertising, stretching a little more. Prince Paul (Handsome Boy Modeling School) and the Dandy Warhols on TV? Something has changed.

The cd is arranged like a good mix tape-- slow songs through the first 7 tracks, the Propellerheads as a segue to dance music, then shifting to soul, silly and rock at the tail end.

One sad thing: This does not contain the "Turn it up, baby!" line from the Mitsubishi commercial.

4.0 out of 5 stars all over the map but some key tunes, March 25, 2003

A great collection of songs you will recall from US TV commercials, but kind of hard to just put on an listen to all the way through. The album starts off with folkier material, go to harder, beat driven tracks and ends up in alt-rock land. And then we get Styx (!). Still pretty good way to get a bunch of great songs you' wouldn't buy otherwise.

I really bought this on a whim, but it's quickly turned into one of my favorite CDs very quickly. The mix of songs sway from mellow to strong vibe, but it transitions very well from one to the other. Heck, they were even able to cross five decades flawlessly!

There are some great songs on this CD, including quite a few songs used in Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, and Gap ads, but one song I would have loved to see included is the song in the current Mitsubishi ad showing lots of different people singing along to it ("Start the Commotion"?). Hopefully that will be included if there is ever an "As Seen on TV 2."

4.0 out of 5 stars Great selection of everything, March 23, 2002
This review is from: As Seen on TV: Songs from Commercials (Audio CD)
I think this is a prime cd. It has some great "oldies" that I recognize and some new music that I was not familiar with but am beginning to like. You don't have to live in a record store to enjoy good music. Great driving CD.

Having found this in the soundtrack bins at the local record store while looking for said song, I decided to pick this one up because it sounded quirky.

It's not bad, mostly techno and feel good pop songs ("Into Your Arms" by The Lemonheads). There is a wonderful song that I didn't know existed and because of both the Volkswagon commercial and subsequently became a posthumous hit, "Pink Moon". People were bent out of shape that Iggy Pop and others sold out their songs to be used in commercials. But hey, let them. Only a precious few achieve enough success that they can live on something creative. If they really cared only about art and not about being famous for something then they would decline.

It's lite and airy, have a good time with it.

Pop songs have a short shelf life. Yet many go by the wayside, never listened. Yet when a commercial blows serious decibles of life back inot these long lost songs, some of us get a musical epiphany. "As Seen On TV" is one of those CD's. Good mix of commerical favourites with a blend unique - for some.Buy it and your friends will want to dub it, garanteed!

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING CD - even has those songs from VW and the GAP!!, June 6, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: As Seen on TV: Songs from Commercials (Audio CD)
Finally, I've been waiting for an album like this!! It has all the songs from the VOLKSWAGON ads, the one with the kids in the car at night (PINK MOON), the spinning beetle (LITTLE FLUFFY CLOUDS), even that DADADA song! "Pink Moon" is worth buying this alone.

All the music works so well together!! I've been trying to find those songs used in the MITSUBISHI car ads (the GROOVE ARMADA one in particular) for a long time!! And the songs used in those GAP CHRISTMAS ads are in here too; RED HOUSE PAINTERS & that song by BADLY DRAWN BOY, the one used in the commercial with the couple moving slowly towards each other then kissing, great commercial! Plus the song from the LEVI's commercial with the girl and she's an artist who splatters paints on jeans - it's that SARAH VAUGHN song!!

They even throw in that song that's been used in all the MTV ads - HANDSOME BOY MODELING SCHOOL - yeahhh!

Highly recommended.
