Over the years, I've ruined countless pairs of pants as my wallet grew to George Costanza wallet proportions as I accumulated more credit cards, ID cards, insurance cards, business cards, receipts and scraps of paper.

After ruining my favorite pair of pants a few weeks ago, I decided it was time to get a money clip.

I got the Smart Money Clip because I wanted something that held both cash and cards. When I got the clip in the mail from Amazon, I was amazed at how well it worked. Especially cool is that it holds cards securely, even if you carried just a single card. I think the trick is that the closed end is tapered slightly so that the card is bent a little (don't worry, cards are not bent enough to do any damage or dome)and stays nice and snug.

My only regret is that I didn't get this money clip sooner.

The only thing you would need to get used to is that since the clip holds only five cards, you need to take with you only what you need. I carry my driver's license, a debit card, a credit card, an insurance card and my bus pass. (Ask yourself, do you really need to carry all your cards out?).

I decided to try this money clip because of the great reviews, and I hate carrying anything of bulk in my pockets. On most outings, I'd be satisfied with my drivers license, a credit card, and some cash- so this seemed like the perfect way to carry that. It only took one try to realize this clip wasn't going to work for me.

There are two problems. Both design flaws. If you plan on carrying just one or two cards, there's not enough tension in the card holding side to keep them secure. I can picture one or both cards falling out if you take it out of your pocket at the wrong angle. You'll need to carry at least three cards to keep them secure, kind of defeating the minimalist approach. The second problem is more personal: this clip has "pointy" corners on both sides- so there's always something digging into you thigh. The build quality is good, and the edges are smooth, but the design means there's no smooth side, regardless of which side you flip it (don't let the pictures fool you). My leather wallet doesn't do this, so even though its bulkier, its more comfortable.

2 stars for build quality, I'm sure it'd last a life time in the right person's pocket, but not mine...

I'm very happy with the product and would reccoemend it for men or women who don't carry a wallet. Fits all my cards and up to 30 bills folded.

I purchased this money clip in 1994, from Levengers, who was reselling it at the time. This has been by far the best wallet or money clip that I've ever had. I fully expect it to last for my lifetime.

The clip is sturdy, and I've abused it terribly over the years with no problems. My version advertised 5 credit cards, but I can reasonably fit 4 into it. Five if I'm willing to really grind them in.

The fact that it only allowed 4 was actually a god-send, since it forced me to really review what exactly I needed to have on my person at all times: that came out to be my drivers license, my debit card, my AMEX, and my AAA card. When I travel, I leave the AAA card in the car and bring the corporate credit card. This has served me perfectly over the years.

The clip itself fits in the front pocket very comfortably. Normally, I forget it's there, and I've had to literally check my pockets to see if I actually have it on me.

All in all, this was an excellent purchase. Highly recommended.

DOUBLE SIDED SMART MONEY CLIP

Wow, does my husband love this money clip. You know how a big bulky wallet makes that mark in your jeans and slacks and is also just sitting there being a prime target for those pesky little pick pockets? Well, no more!

My husband says it is so practical and handy. It holds his driver license and can hold five to six credit cards on one side. The other side holds a WAD of bills. Both the money and credit cards/license stay put on the clip. None of these items has an opportunity to slide off of the nifty little clip. The clip easily and definitely stays in the pocket of your slacks.

The clip comes in a variety of finishes -- we ordered the silver one and it is very classy looking. This clip is also so very thin my hubby says he barely knows he is carrying it. Just what every man should have!

We are going to purchase another for our son to carry too. This is one of the best purchases a man can make!!! Well, besides jewels for his wife ---

I did a lot of research into this money clip and other similar ones. I was fortunate enough to find a co-worker who had this clip and I checked it out in person and thought it could work, so I ordered this one on Amazon.

Let me tell you, this thing is awesome. It is very slim and holds everything that I need. Some people will have concerns that this clip doesn't hold enough cards that you need to use. I had the same concerns, but in the end this clip ended up making me get rid of cards I carried around for no reason. I scanned in all of my non-daily cards (Health Insurance, AAA, Car Insurance, etc) into my phone. I figured since I always have my phone with me, this was a perfect solution, and every vendor I've dealt with has had no problem looking at my scanned in card instead of the real thing. Any store cards (Costco, Sams, Groceries, etc) I leave in my car now because 99% of the time I am taking my car to those stores anyhow. Another phone option is to use a program like CardStar that stores UPC codes for membership cards. After all of that slimming down in cards I still had one more card than could fit, so I simply moved that card (actually my license) to be behind the money on the money clip side. That works great because my license is always in the same place for when I need to pull it out. I do wish though that maybe they could make a one card slot on that side of the money clip for something like that, but that is a minor concern.

So are there any negatives? Not really, the only thing that could possibly be a negative is that over time the cards get a very slight bend to them. The bend isn't enough to make them not swipe-able by any means but it is worth noting.

The quality of the clip was ok, but it was ackward to use the card part. Cards went in ok, but trying to easily pull out just one was a problem. This may be ok if you only carry 2 cards, but more than that would be asking for trouble. I tried to put about 5 cards in - then trying to access one caused them to fly out. It was a little more bulky than I was looking for, but still can be ok in a front pocket.

I just ordered this from Amazon after reading the good reviews and was very disappointed. The images don't match the item. There is a clip on both sides - not the folded over edges shown in the pictures for the credit cards. Functionally it would still be fine, but all of the edges are very rough. I will probably just toss this one and get a higher end model.
