Classic R&B, The Way It Should Be,
By Greg C. (NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: As Segundas Intencoes Do Manual Pratico (Audio CD)
This album is incredible! Brazil, and more specifically Rio, has a longstanding black music tradition heavily influenced by US soul and funk, a lineage that includes Tim Maia, Dom Salvador, Cassiano, Wilson Simonal, Banda Black Rio, Robson Jorge, Hyldon, Uniao Black and even bossa nova-originated artists like Marcos Valle, Joao Donato and Antonio Adolfo. Ed Motta, a 29-year-old former teenaged soul prodigy, is the heir to this tradition, and it's in great hands! Amazing voice, great songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and great performer--he's got it all! This is his fifth album and his best yet. Basically, if you love Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, Steely Dan, Roy Ayers, Brass Construction, Donny Hathaway, Rufus & Chaka Khan and Marvin Gaye as well as assorted 90s acid jazz and, not to mention, Brazilian music, YOU NEED THIS CD. Trust me!!

Nice set,

I think this is a nice set of songs. I think Ed Motta is talented- genius I'm not sure. But this disc is good for popping in the car for a drive. Its a 70's sounding kinda record.I have also Dwitza which is really good, but a little more experimental. This CD is smoother and more straight ahead. People get too hung up on labels and comparisons. Maybe they should try making their own music, and they'll see. I do, its hard to create something good much less great. And as so much has been done before us its hard to create something completely new. My 2 cents.

This review is from: As Segundas Intencoes (Audio CD)
Eddie has become a "New" great Brazilian musician/songwriter/singer, you name it, his groove and style are terrific, assemblying Jazz-Funk fusion with R&B and Brazilian accents, the result is a superb album. Don't hesitate it, add it to your collection, you'll love it.
