5.0 out of 5 stars Classic R&B, The Way It Should Be
This album is incredible! Brazil, and more specifically Rio, has a longstanding black music tradition heavily influenced by US soul and funk, a lineage that includes Tim Maia, Dom Salvador, Cassiano, Wilson Simonal, Banda Black Rio, Robson Jorge, Hyldon, Uniao Black and even bossa nova-originated artists like Marcos Valle, Joao Donato and Antonio Adolfo. 5.0 out of 5 stars Classic R&B, The Way It Should Be, November 30, 2000
This review is from: As Segundas Intencoes Do Manual Pratico (Audio CD)
This album is incredible! Brazil, and more specifically Rio, has a longstanding black music tradition heavily influenced by US soul and funk, a lineage that includes Tim Maia, Dom Salvador, Cassiano, Wilson Simonal, Banda Black Rio, Robson Jorge, Hyldon, Uniao Black and even bossa nova-originated artists like Marcos Valle, Joao Donato and Antonio Adolfo. Ed Motta, a 29-year-old former teenaged soul prodigy, is the heir to this tradition, and it's in great hands! Amazing voice, great songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and great performer--he's got it all! This is his fifth album and his best yet. Basically, if you love Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, Steely Dan, Roy Ayers, Brass Construction, Donny Hathaway, Rufus & Chaka Khan and Marvin Gaye as well as assorted 90s acid jazz and, not to mention, Brazilian music, YOU NEED THIS CD. Trust me!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice set, May 24, 2003
By
This review is from: As Segundas Intencoes Do Manual Pratico (Audio CD)
I think this is a nice set of songs. I think Ed Motta is talented- genius I'm not sure. But this disc is good for popping in the car for a drive. Its a 70's sounding kinda record.
I have also Dwitza which is really good, but a little more experimental. This CD is smoother and more straight ahead.
People get too hung up on labels and comparisons. Maybe they should try making their own music, and they'll see. I do, its hard to create something good much less great. And as so much has been done before us its hard to create something completely new. My 2 cents.

5.0 out of 5 stars ED MOTTA DESERVES A 10 STAR, November 1, 2001
This review is from: As Segundas Intencoes (Audio CD)
Eddie has become a "New" great Brazilian musician/songwriter/singer, you name it, his groove and style are terrific, assemblying Jazz-Funk fusion with R&B and Brazilian accents, the result is a superb album. Don't hesitate it, add it to your collection, you'll love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT CD TO HAVE IN YOUR MUSIC COLLECTION!, March 29, 2006
This review is from: As Segundas Intencoes Do Manual Pratico (Audio CD)
This is a perfect complement for the first CD, As Intencoes do Manual Pratico. I didn't get that CD because most of the songs that are there are in the CD Novo Millennium. Ed Motta is the Brazlian Version of "Los Amigos Invisibles" so if you like them, you'll also enjoy this CD. You won't regret buying it, especially since this CD is very hard to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars The True Best of Ed's music, September 8, 2001
This review is from: As Segundas Intencoes (Audio CD)
In this CD, Ed not only had and extremely dancing groove on amost of the the songs, but he was able to show fantastic writting and arranging skills. In songs such as "Outono no Rio", he uses a full orchestration of strings, woodwinds, and a jazzy rhythm section that blend with his deep voice, in beautiful melodies, explaining the high quality music that is made here.
It is one of the best records out there that was able to blend popular dance "sing along" music, with well elaborated jazz harmonies and arrangements.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT MAKE A MISTAKE, August 3, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: As Segundas Intencoes Do Manual Pratico (Audio CD)
Forget the hype on this guy. He tells himself he is a genius. But he is just a musician with no originality, that takes elements from 200 artists and presents nothing new. He probably would like to be a Steely Dan member. However the truth is very different. Avoid to spend your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ordinary Brazilian pop, August 15, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: As Segundas Intencoes Do Manual Pratico (Audio CD)
Very ordinary Brazilian pop music, provided by the controversional (and always very egocentric) singer/composer Ed Motta.
Some say he is a promising talent. I say he is a complete fraud. His musical concept (actually, the complete lack of it!) sounds like a disgusting mix of elements robbed (instead of assimilated) from Steely Dan, Roy Ayers, Azymuth, Marcos Valle, Crusaders, the list goes on and on. Everything enveloped on silky grandiloquent orchestrations. What a shame!
