It's Just Two People, Really,

... as quoted by Jean. This is my favorite show of all time. These four episodes have Jean and Lionel traveling to the states and back. It's so fun watching their relationship take such great strides while the comedy just gets stronger. This series does such a great job at showing this loving couple getting more comfortable at having each other in their lives. It's also great to see how they interact with the "Americans". Then, when they return - dealing with jet lag and a dose of humility. Such a brillant, funny show. I highly recommend this show for everybody.

I am fortunate to have the seven volumes that you have offered for sale. It is by far the finest comedy. The chemistry between Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer serve as the basis for the story. All of the supporting cast are also truely outstanding. I'm hopeful that you will offer many many more volumes. Hopefully, the entire series.

Is Hollywood reading for the love story of Jean and Lionel?,

Volume 7 of "As Time Goes By," the BBC Comedy starring Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer, finds Jean and Lionel more caught up in the story of their love rather than actually getting on with their happy ending. Apparently this is the second half of Series 3, not that I am really sure what that means (I assume a series is something like our season), so I will continue to number the episodes consecutively starting from the first one:Episode 20 finds Alistair (Philip Bretherton) back from the United States to tell Lionel (Palmer) and Jean (Dench) that an American television company is interested in doing a mini-series about their love story. After all, the dashing young British Army officer and the lovely student nurse who fell in love and lost contact with each other for almost forty years certainly hooked us. However, Lionel has to hurry up and write a treatment before having lunch with a Hollywood type. Episode 21 has Jean and Lionel traveling to Hollywood to continue the talks about this mini-series. Jean keeps counseling Lionel to play it cool, so, of course, it is she who blows her top during the meeting with the wacky studio executive and his band of lunatics. Episode 22 has our lovebirds back from Hollywood and suffering jet lag. Of course, Jean refuses to admit she is out of it and insists on dealing with the manager of her second office, who is so competent (and good looking) that Judy (Moria Brooker) and Sandy (Jenny Funnell) cannot stand her. Episode 23 has Lionel trying to work on the mini-series with the help of two totally different secretarial assistants, both of whom were provided by that "Miss Ice Cubes," who runs Jean's second office. Meanwhile, Lionel's father and his new bride and in the hospital in his and her neck braces. It is interesting at this point in the series that it is now Jean rather than Lionel who is the target of much of the humor, which always strikes me as odd since we are talking Dame Judi Dench here. Meanwhile, Judy has finally broached the nature of their relationship with Allistair. Apparently Jean and Lionel are comfortable with the relationship (there are actually several scenes of them in bed together), and it seems like they went from fighting the inevitable to total acceptance in between episodes.

As Time Goes By Series,

This review is from: As Time Goes By 7 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The As Time Goes by series is a true feel good series. I recently got all seven volumes and enjoyed them very much. The love and friendship portrayed by the actors seems so real it warms the heart. The only problem I had was how little time it seemed to take to watch all seven tapes. I hope future volumes are out soon.

I have bcome completely enamored of this British "soap opera/situation comedy". My PBS station is so far behind that I have never seen anything beyond Series 3! Please BBC put out a few more videos. You have plenty to spare!

I need more! I have recently become a fan of "As Time Goes By" and have purchased all that's available on tape. It will take until next summer for my PBS affiliate to get to year 4 or 5 and I need more NOW. This is a truly wonderful piece of television. The acting is superlative and I find myself deeply in love with Geoffrey Palmer...what an amazing character Lionel is! I feel like I'm peeking inside someone's life rather than watching a show. So many more seasons exist...when can we buy them. Tell the BBC we need more!

We have viewed the available seven tapes so many times, they are ALL getting dog-eared! Such a warm feeling when Jean looks at Lionel and visa versa. The whole cast is so much a part of our lives now, we don't ever want to see a final episode. It gives us a reason to turn on the telly for real true entertainment.. ....release more episodes, soon! ROCK ON, FOREVER!
