5.0 out of 5 stars "As Time Goes By ... Beegie Adair ... Village Square Music (2007)", April 30, 2007
This review is from: As Time Goes By (Audio CD)
Village Square Music presents "AS TIME GOES BY", featuring Beegie Adair one of the best kept secrets around...but the word, or should we say music is getting out there --- if you haven't discovered Beegie Adair yet, you don't know what you've been missing --- About her music Adair says, "Falling in love with jazz is like falling in love with a person, except with jazz you never get over it." --- Once in a while a musician comes along with impeccable technique, deep understanding of the jazz repertoire, an innate tendency to swing and the rare ability to communicate the heart and soul of a tune to listeners. That musician is Beegie Adair.

She performs solo and with the Beegie Adair Trio, whose members include drummer Chris Brown, a veteran of the Maynard Ferguson ensemble, and bassist Roger Spencer, who has played with the Les Brown Band, Ray Conniff, the Page Cavanaugh Trio and Pete Jolly. They are, she says, my main guys. They're so tuned into the way I visualize music that its effortless to play with them.

Adair's performance is impeccable, the renditions are simply from the heart...one can hardly pick a stand out, entire recording draws on slow tempos with blends of original sentiment and gorgeous melodies in the order in which they appear:

I'LL REMEMBER APRIL - Phantom Lady (1944) - Starring Franchot Tone & Ella Raines

IT MIGHT AS WELL BE SPRING - State Fair (1945) - Starring Jeanne Crain, Dana Andrews, Dick Haymes & Vivian Blaine

AS TIME GOES BY - Casablanca (1942) - Starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid & Claude Rains,

ON THE ATCHISON, TOPEKA AND THE SANTA FE - The Harvey Girls (1946) - Starring Judy Garland, John Hodiak & Ray Bolger

INVITATION - A Life Of Her Own (1950) - Starring Lana Turner & Ray Milland

SWINGIN' ON A STAR - Going My Way (1944) - Starring Bing Crosby & Barry Fitzgerald

GOLDEN EARRINGS- Golden Earrings (1947) - Starring Ray Milland & Marlene Dietrich

GREEN DOLPHIN STREET - Green Dolphin Street (1947) - Starring Lana Turner & Van Heflin

OVER THE RAINBOW - The Wizard Of Oz (1939) - Starring Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, Billie Burke & Margaret Hamilton

STELLA BY STARLIGHT- The Uninvited (1944) - Starring Ray Milland, Ruth Hussey & Gail Russell

BUTTONS & BOWS- The Pale Face (1948) - Starring Bob Hope & Jane Russell

WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR (1940) - Pinocchio - The song from Pinocchio, "When You Wish Upon A Star" was ranked #7 in the 2004 American Film Institute's List of the "Top Movie Songs of All Time", the highest ranking song on the list among Disney animated films.

Citing George Shearing, Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson and Erroll Garner among her influences, Adair has recorded 20 CDs, ranging from Cole Porter standards to Frank Sinatra classics to romantic World War II ballads. Her 6-CD Centennial Composers Collection of tunes by Rodgers, Gershwin, Kern, Ellington, Carmichael and Berlin became an instant collectible classic when it was released in 2002.

Give a listen to the American standards that have stood the test of time and will go on forever...Beegie's performance on each track is simply touching with a tear in your eye --- completely gets under your skin and you're loving every minute of it ... the album plays like fine wine and flows very easy on the ears --- once again Village Square comes through with a must have for all music lovers and fans...every arrangement has that we'll be together again, with the same sensitivity and tender loving care as their previous album

Hats off to producer Jack Jezzro, executive producer Greg Howard ...recorded and mixed by Brandon Harkin at Wildwood Recording, Brentwood, Tennessee and mastered by Mike Haynes of 440 Digital, Nashville, TN --- after 12 tracks it does leave you wanting more --- and we know they'll be more down the road --- if you enjoyed this album, why do not try another new release "Sentimental Journey" (Village Square 3055) featuring The Beegie Adair Trio, with Roger Spencer on bass and Chris Brown on drums --- relive the music of World War II with a smooth blend of instrumental jazz --- just the way we like it ... THE BEEGIE ADAIR TRIO!

5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible Pianist, August 25, 2007

If you are really into piano players you have to hear Beegie Adair. She knows just what to do to really make that piano talk. She plays with a lot of feeling, emotion and sensitivity. She can swing or lay back and smooth everything out. Her newest recording, "As Time Goes By", is a perfect example of Beegie's versatility. I particularly like the tune "Stella By Starlight" but every song on the CD is top notch. I would classify Beegie's music as "Cocktail Lounge Jazz" - easily related to and not at all offensive.

I am a piano player and have hundreds of piano recordings. Beegie adair is at the top of my list (Along with George Shearing). Her harmony, chord structure and improvisations are impeccable. Buy this recording - you will not be dissapointed.

I purchased this album after hearing Beegie Adair's Christmas album and it did not disappoint. I have been wanting some relaxing piano music that sounded like someone playing their piano next door or across the alley. This fits the bill and more.

Beegie Adair never fails to entertain. Her music is so mellow I play it in traffic jams just to chill out. One CD always leads me to buy another.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beegie Adair is in a league all her own, July 2, 2008
This review is from: As Time Goes By (Audio CD)
I have almost worn out this CD. It is such a good stress-reliever at the end of the day. And on the weekends, my husband and I like to sit down to a little candle-light dinner, with Beegie playing in the background___like dining in a 5-star restaurant

5.0 out of 5 stars I Simply LOVE Beegie Adair's Piano!, December 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: As Time Goes By (Audio CD)
I'm "cutting and pasting" the same review for all the Beegie Adair albums I'm purchasing, because I just ADORE her jazz piano styling! Each album is another jewel. I play the piano too, and wish that I could play like Beegie. If she can make me actually LIKE "Little Drummer Boy," that's really saying something! I've collected close to a dozen albums so far, and listen to her at home, in the car, and even in my classroom! Beegie's music is tasteful and soothing, but is never mawkish or cloying. Hers is high-class, technically pure romantic jazz. Her collections are all equally enticing! Beegie Adair is one of the best piano artists in the country.
