This CD is top notch!,

I saw Jimmy Heath, Jon Faddis, and Slide Hampton in concert and it was one of the best performances ever. Since I cannot find the three of them playing together anywhere else, I figured the next best thing would be to find a CD with all three of them playing. This is the one.I am a trumpet fan, and although Jon Faddis only plays on three of the tracks, all nine songs are excellent. Without a doubt, the highlight of the album is the Heath brothers version of "I'm Glad There is You". The technical proficiency of Jimmy on tenor is not to be believed. Perhaps the best way to describe this recording is to paraphrase the last paragraph of the insert. "This new offering ... is so well thought out and is executed with so much relaxation, the music seems the expression of some kind of inevitable, natural process." How each musician plays technically difficult material while making each song sound so relaxed is a mystery to me.

Heard all three brothers a couple years ago at Stanford Summer Jazz Festival and Jimmy and "Tootie" in concert there this past Summer as Percy has passed. They are all amazing. Terrific humor, love of music, and beautiful jazz. There will be no more albums with all three brothers, so I cherish this one.
