5.0 out of 5 stars Adventures with Hamster
The great thing about Hammond's writing style is that he makes you feel as though you are sitting across from him having a pint while he personally tells you about his experiances. The entire time I was reading this I could hear his voice speaking the words. (Jeremy Clarkson's books are also written like this) ONce you read this and realize what actually goes on BEFORE...

3.0 out of 5 stars some interesting back stories
This book is a fun and light read, with some of the humor probably particularly appealing to teen boys. I did appreciate how hard the Polar Special was for Mr. Hammond - much more so than the TV version (just shown in the USA Dec 2009) makes it appear. After reading more, I was a bit sad the truck beat him to the pole.

The entire time I was reading this I could hear his voice speaking the words. (Jeremy Clarkson's books are also written like this) ONce you read this and realize what actually goes on BEFORE they even begin to shoot an episode really makes you appreciate it all the more. As much as I loved everthing about this book, the best part for me was the last part where Hammond meets up with Evel. It's here where he is really writing from the heart. Of course there is always Oliver too! If you love Top Gear, then do yourself a favor and pick this book up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, January 17, 2010
I do like Richard's humorous style within the book and I found it very interesting to see what happens behind the cameras. Richard portrays his interesting life in an engaging way which helps us to understand the man behind the presenter we see on TV.

The book was funny at times and still managed to be very informative a good read for someone who follows Top Gear and can fit on screen personalities with the people in the book.

It was a fun, light read. Very humorous and witty. I didn't realize how hard the Polar Special was for him and was sad when he lost.I found very enjoyable and it took very little time to get through it.

2.0 out of 5 stars A brave little man, January 2, 2012
When reading Richard Hammonds book one would get the feeling that he is risking life and limb with every step he takes, even while taking a crap. There are a few interesting back storys, most are regurgitations of Top Gear. See the show and save your money.

A long time fan of Top Gear I bought this book along with "On the Edge" to get a better sense of just who I was watching on the television screen. Mr. Hammond takes a very open and honest approach in his writing, although some of his descriptions can be a bit over the top. His book is somewhat tongue-in-cheek as it is abundantly clear there is no such thing as a typical day in his world. Mr. Hammond seems to not take himself too seriously (he often draws the short straw) and it is his humorous take on all of the mishaps and adventures he partakes that makes this a joyous read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, September 16, 2011

Highly entertaining books. You can just imagine Richard Hammond sitting beside you reading the book out loud. I've watched Top Gear for many years and enjoyed the badinage between The three presenters. Richard more than holds his own. After reading the section on Evel Kneivel, I've decided to see if I can track down that documentary.

The Kindle version has excellent formatting, a rarity in ebooks. I was very disappointed to discover that the ebook has none of the photographs that are included in the printed version; what could they have been thinking? I subtracted one star for that.
