Orlando's greedy brother wants him out of the way. Rosalind's uncle the Duke wants her out of the way. When Orlando disappears at the same time Rosalind and her cousin disappear, the Duke sends the brother to retrieve them.
Orlando flees to Arden Forest, where the Rosalind's father, who was deposed by the present Duke, leads a band of outlaws reminiscent of Robin Hood's Merry Men. Rosalind dons men's clothes and buys a farm on the edge of Arden. Then things begin to really get complicated. In order for everyone to live happily ever after, Shakespeare has to resort to some highly improbable coincidences and repentances. Not one of Shakespeare's best plays, but entertaining enough, especially as it has been done so well by Arkangel Shakespeare. |
