Great Information, but....,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ascend Mt. Rainier (DVD)
The content of this DVD is VERY informative, but beware: the "DVD" I received does not play in a standard DVD player that connects to a TV. It only plays on a computer DVD drive. I called the producers and they said that because of something in the process of making DVDs, it might not play on all standard players. So ... buyer beware. Otherwise the information is comprehensive, and Eric Simonson is very engaging as he tells the viewer about just what it takes to climb Rainier.

Being a novice climber and wanting to climb Mt. Rainier I found this DVD extremely helpful. It includes great route decriptions with some fun interative maps, 360 degree views etc. I feel this DVD is well worth purchasing for anyone interested in attempting Rainier ... or even if you're just into some great footage of a spectacular mountain. I look forward to the next addition .... Ascend Mt. Baker!

Ok guide. Kind of boring with not a lot of high-quality visuals. Bad sound too. All the other reviews sound like they were written by the company that makes them.

Ascend DVD is unlike anything I've seen,

I am so impressed with this DVD! Being from CO I needed to gather as much info as I could about Rainier before climbing. The whole "Know Before You Go" premise is so fitting for this DVD. Nothing else in my research for the climb proved as valuable as the Ascend Mount Rainier DVD. Guide books are helpful, but the DVD literally and virtually takes you to the mountain and veteran climber/guide Eric Simonson offers the necessary info to successfully plan for the climb. Even for those who never plan to climb Rainier but wonder what its like, this is the product for YOU! The other, much anticipated volumes in the ASCEND series, like Kilimanjaro, Denali and Mt. Baker should be even more phenomenal. Hopefully there will be others!

Not really that interesting, there are no actual "climbing" shots at all, it's mostly a mish mosh of approach footage and a small amount of slogging on a glacier.BORING!

Having family climb Mount Rainer gives me a greater understand ing and respect for the continue desire to climb this mountain over and over again. It shows just how beautiful this mountain is and makes me want climb it myself. I love the the panorama's. Have played with it on the TV and used it on the computer so I could print a map. Never seen a DV like it. Will enjoy it if you climb mountains or just love adventure.

What makes this DVD great are the interviews with Eric Simonson, mixed with video footage of the routes. Together, you really get a sense of what it's like up on the mountain. Not to mention, you get Eric's years of advice and knowledge. If you are aspiring to climb Mount Rainier, or just want to know what it's like up there, the Ascend Mt. Rainier DVD will satisfy your coursity and inform you along the way. Happy climbing

This has to be the best video and informational DVD on climbing MT. Rainier. I have lived in the Pacific Northwest all my life, and have never had a desire to climb Mt. Rainier. After seeing the DVD,I KNOW I will never climb it. But I often wondered what it was like, and what was up there ,now I know. It is beautiful. I have watched it over and over and still find new things everytime I veiw it. Thank you Ascend team for putting out such a fine product. Now I can climb Mt.Rainier from my easy chair whenever I want.

A must buy for anyone thinking of doing Rainier! Narrated by Eric Simonson, one of Rainier's most knowledgable climbers, this DVD allows one to learn the different routes by seeing actual footage of the routes. I have been climbing for two years, and this video proved both instructional and exciting. It got me psyched up for climbing as well as deeply educated about different routes, campsites, hazards, logistics, and anything else I needed to know before my Rainier climb. Finally there's a well produced interactive guide out there for anyone who has any interest in learning more about climbing!!!

This review is from: Ascend Mt. Rainier (DVD)
I think it is a good dvd - I wish the was a bit more on the routes and a little on glaicer rescue - but all in all I think it describes the routes pretty good for a basic intro - if your relying on a soley a dvd to get you up rainier the your not too smart. get this for an intro and then really do your resarch on your route thru books, trip reports, etc...climbing rangers.
