great, great record, May 19, 2004
This review is from: Ascend to the Stars (Audio CD)
this cd starts out great (check out the vocal performance of "angel youth") and ends great. last days of april are my favorite band right now. amazing because i'm in my 30's and have been around indie music way too long to give most young bands like this much of a chance (usually). guess i'm a jaded old fart... but they really won me over. helps that i just broke up with my girlfriend and pretty much every ldoa song is about that subject. beautiful. can't figure out whether they cheer me up or make me more depressed but who cares... reminds me of a young elliott smith meets sparklehorse meed dinosaur jr. yet the music is simpler (in a good way) and sparser. amazing. their next record is even better.

Wonderful pop songs., August 26, 2002
When i first heard this cd i was unsure, because it lacks a lot of what "Angel youth" possessed as far as big string sections and two guitars."Ascend to the stars", is raw and stripped down in comparison. But this album has a lot that Angel youth does not, such as electronic beats and much more input from keyboards. The songs are much slower, a little like Mercuary Rev at times and it sounds less typically emo compared to Angel Youth, which can only be a good thing. One downside to this record is that Karl Larson does re-use lyrics from Angel Youth on "at your most beautiful"...."im sorry so damn sorry" but who cares, the track is amazing!! This albumn did seriously grow on me though!!give it time. you know youll like it, so just buy it. im bored now.
