Product Description

Bring your indoor workouts to new heights with the Ascent Fluid Trainer - the perfect purveyor of quiet, smooth resistance on a rock solid frame. The fluid resistance unit provides a progressive, high intensity workout that will have you feeling the burn in no time. That's the beauty of the fluid unit - there's no need to worry about clamping a lever to your handlebars to adjust resistance as you simply use your bike's gears plus vary your pedaling RPMs to vary the workout intensity. It really does replicate what it feels like to ride outside! And it's quiet enough that you can enjoy whatever media you prefer while training without having to jack up the decibels to overcome an incessant, irksome drone. It comes fully assembled out of the box, so just put the skewer in your rear wheel (the included rear skewer is optimized to fit into the fluid trainer's support cups - what you have already may not fit), clamp your bike into the frame and start pedaling away. This fluid trainer is perfect for indoor training at home when weather or lack of daylight puts a damper on riding outdoors and it's also portable enough to be the perfect means for getting warmed-up and ready to rock at a race. Fluid resistance unit utilizes a steel flywheel to create a smooth, road-like feel for your indoor cycle training workouts Steel frame folds to a compact size making it easy to store or transport Rubber feet dampen noise and vibration Includes a steel quick release skewer

I am pretty much a die hard Amazon shopper, but I have already been a member of Nashbar / PerformanceBike .com online stores for years. When I saw this listed on Amazon, I went to the Nashbar site, and sure enough, this was listed there. I would not hesitate for a second to buy through Amazon and recommend anyone feel confident going that route.

I have used a 300 pound $1500 machine for 5 years that just broke. I have depended on it heavily since recovering from free falling off a 20 foot rock drop that had me in a cast and 3 operations over a one year period of time. Having something VERY sturdy and effective is a must. I also have mountain biked cross country trail for over 10 years and have tackled some real trails in the Rocky Mountains during that time. I demand something that works. With this trainer, I have not been let down.

About this trainer, I was REALLY worried about its effectiveness and build quality. First thing I noticed, it is very weighted with almost NO plastic other than bumpers on the feet and the handle of the wheel lock that tightens the skewer in place. The skewer is included and is solid steel. To set up your bike, this thing is so easy to use I did not even glance at the instructions to get started. Then again, I build my own mountain bikes, so this is subjective. If you need the instructions, than it is a good thing you are patient enough to use them. I am simply stating this thing is that simple, solid, and easy to use.

The biggest concern now is the Fluid Wheel, and thus far, it is smooth and very resistant. In fact, I am training on an 8 speed/24 gear bike and only use the largest crank ring and 5th down to 7th cog. The faster gear you set your bike to rotate the wheel, the harder this thing is, AND IT WORKS!!!

Ok trainer for the money. Have had mine for about 6 months. Build is what you'd expect from a 100 dollar fluid trainer, simple, very sturdy, very heavy, but the measurements made during the production of frame on which the fluid wheel rests are slightly off on mine and I have to prop one corner up with some towels so it doesn't rock back and forth. Somewhat quiet in very easy gears but then gets pretty rackety and produces strong vibrations in higher gears which you don't feel but you can certainly hear throughout your house, I use mine with headphones when no ones home so if you looking for an apartment trainer this is probably not a good choice. Fluid wheel on mine has started to develop a bit of a 'dead spot' as well where resistance in a part of the pedal stroke is much easier than the rest of the stroke, not super noticeable but there, mostly noticeable on low cadence, hard gears, not very noticeable when doing 90rpm. Fluid wheel gets extremely hot during interval sessions as well, dunno how common that is for fluid trainers, seems like it might be as they all have heat fins on the casing. But, for 100 bucks you can get a fluid trainer instead of the normal 300. The progressive resistance is definitely there, it does not really feel like riding on the road, it actually feels much harder when the fluid wheel is tightened to your road wheel correctly (no slip) but it does a pretty decent job of providing resistance to pedaling. I've used it for 2 hour long spins and 1 hour long interval sessions quite often and it works decently.

Bought through Bike Nashbar not Amazon. This is a great trainer. Easy to set up, quiet to use, sturdy, and doesn't shift while riding. Well worth the money so we keep riding on the days when the weather isn't good enough to ride outside.
