ascent of mount carmel by john of the cross, e. allison peers (trans.), January 5, 2010
This review is from: Ascent of Mount Carmel (Paperback)
The Wilder edition of Saint John's masterpiece, The Ascent of Mount Carmel, was a big disappointment. (1) All of the scholarly footnotes by E. Allsion Peers were omitted, taking away most of this edition's value; (2) the diagram of the path up Mount Carmel by Saint John, included in other editions, was omitted. (3) The Wilder Company claimed a copyright for this book. Baffling, since there are identical translations by Peers floating around. How would Wilder know? (4) There was a disclaimer in the front of the book that modern people might not agree with some of the attitudes of the author (500 years ago)! So if you want to buy a stripped down model with no wheels, this is the one for you. Felix Heap
