About the Author

It was in an upstairs apartment on Ashby Ave. in Berkeley that a strong community of short story writers, novelists, screenwriters, and poets first developed in 1995. Since the loss of the Ashby apartment in a 1998 fire, the group now meets elsewhere in Berkeley and San Francisco. Several members of this diverse group of writers contributed new fiction to this anthology of short stories and novel excerpts. Work by the authors has recently appeared in the Berkeley Fiction Review, Red Rock Review, South Dakota Review, Stone Shoes, the San Francisco Chronicle, Palo Alto Weekly, fiction9.com, and Spin magazine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh dear..., January 19, 2001
By
John Kraft (Lisbon, Portugal) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ashby Ave. (Paperback)
It's rare that a book comes along that combines the talents of so many varied writers in such a seamless and synergistic way...My personal favourite was Guys To Blow and Guys to Blow Off by L.M. Cerruti. The other stories are all fantastic as well... In many ways, I'm still recovering from the journey. From Red Mercedes to Aeroplane Tonight I had a difficult time puting the book down...I believe the ranking of this title will steadily rise as more and more people experience the depth, joy, and creativity that can be found on and within Ashby Ave.

At long last the coming together of some of my favorite authors! I mean both Berry's and Petrulakis in the same collection! It is a dream come true.

4.0 out of 5 stars I have told people to buy the book!, April 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Ashby Ave. (Paperback)
This is a good collection of stories. I liked 'Aeroplane Tonight'.... it did not agitate me like some of the others. It was clever and I had not read anything like it before. I liked "South Side". It just hit me right. I thought about "Buck's Back" days after I read it. Liked the style, but I am a wimp these days and the topic was disturbing. I would read "Aeroplane Tonight" again...I don't know if I would read "Buck's Back" again -- good but too disturbing. Some I do not even remember now and some I can recall well... I remember "Red Mercedes" and "One Mississippi."
