4.0 out of 5 stars a good "in-between" book..., May 6, 2002
This review is from: Ashes and Ice (Yukon Quest #2) (Paperback)
This book fits perfectly as the second in a trilogy. The beginning re-introduces you to the characters, and the end leaves you wanting to read the next book immediately. In between- there are disasters, secrets, and misunderstandings. Despite all of their hardships, the faith of the characters is deepened and strengthened.

These books may be formulaic, but Ms. Peterson writes very well, so the formula isn't noticed as much. The descriptions are vivid and the thoughts of the characters are written so well, I found myself slipping into the book and feeling what the characters were going through.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Christian Fiction, December 11, 2003

This review is from: Ashes and Ice (Yukon Quest #2) (Paperback)
This is one of Tracie Peterson's best series. She makes it exciting and draws you into the book, while also having some very good parts about God and faith. These books were the first of hers I read, and they remain my favorite.

Karen, Grace, and Karen's aunt Doris are three of the most diverse characters I've seen in a book that remain fast friends. Grace is meek and shy; Karen is anxious for women to be seen as humans and have equal rights; Doris is an old spinster with a straight-forward view of life, believing in the education of women and children.

The plot of the first book, Treasures of the North, caught my attention... and held it. I have to say I didn't expect the events in the second and third books, Ashes and Ice and Rivers of Gold. Tracie Peterson weaves words like a magician, something I strive to achieve. When I'm wanting for a book to read, the Yukon Quest is one of the first I consider.

4.0 out of 5 stars What an ending!, September 23, 2001
By
This review is from: Ashes and Ice (Yukon Quest #2) (Paperback)
I only want to say, when is the next one? I bought the book on the release date, anxious to follow up on the lives of Karen and the rest. I must say I was excited and disappointed in the cliffhanger ending. As much as I enjoyed the book, I would have waited until the next one was ready in my reading banks before embarked on its adventure.

This book was great! I read it in two days (and nights)! The books includes other characters that develop before your eyes. Karen is awesome in this book. Karen's struggles are very real for most believers at certain times in thier lives. I certainly needed her testimony. I laughed and cried with the little group of friends and believers. Grace certainly stands up for God and herself and the results are going to be great. Of course, a cliffhanger is given in the end and I cannot wait for book 3!! Hurry up and get it published!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Sequel With More To Come, July 9, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Ashes and Ice (Yukon Quest #2) (Paperback)
Ashes and Ice is even better than Treasures of the north wich is also a definite 5 star book. Ashes and Ice is about Grace's friend, Karen Pierce. After traveling to Alaska to help Grace escape her evil fiance, Karen restarts her quest to find her father only to find out that he's died from an epidemic. After a terrible fire ruining all of her possesions, Karen is left with nothing except Leah and Jacob Barringer who are thought to be orphans left in her care. When Jacob runs away to search for gold, a friend of Karen's father, Adrik Ivankov, offers to take her to look for Jacob. On their journey Karen and Adrik fall madly in love with eachother even though at times they try to deny it. Karen also ends up taking Grace along with her because Peter left her (momentarily) because he was frusterated at Grace for being so involved with her religion. After a while he decides to go back and find her. What I love about these books is that the subject matter is appropriate for more mature readers of a younger age. I enjoyed this book very much and I'm already reading Rivers of Gold. I would 100% reccomend this book!!!!!!!!!!

This review is from: Ashes and Ice (Yukon Quest #2) (Paperback)
I loved this book! It was so much better than the first and I'm gald I stuck with the series. The love story between Karen and Adrik is wonderful. I enjoyed getting to know Jacob and Leah better and was happy to finally have Miranda developed into a character worth knowing. I highly recommend this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Second Book of the Series, May 25, 2003
By
This review is from: Ashes and Ice (Yukon Quest #2) (Paperback)
Grace and Peter's marriage started out as a matter of convenience, but at the time they both fully loved each other. But things don't always last. They have a small argument and one leaves the other.

Karen suffers a great loss and has to decide what to do next. She decides the only thing to do is to head north to the goldfields to find Jacob. With the help of Adrik Ivanov goes with them as their guide but he also has a hidden quest behind the journey.

Peter gets awful news and heads north to investigate but it's too late in the season to actually head north into the goldfields. So he has to wait out the winter with the awful news.

Tracie does a wonderful job in continuing the story of Grace and Karen in this book. Sometimes it's hard to continue a series with such a complex story line. Hopefully the next book will be just as good.

I ENJOY CHRISTIAN FICTION AND WILL CERTAINLY ADD MS. PETERSON'S NAME TO MY LIST OF FAVORITE HISTORICAL FICTION WRITERS. THIS BOOK, AS WELL AS THE FIRST ONE IN THE YUKON QUEST SERIES,IS VERY ENTERTAINING-A PERFECT DIVERSION FROM REGULAR ROUTINE TASKS. I ANXIOUSLY AWAIT THE THIRD IN THE SERIES AND HOPE THAT WILL BE OUT VERY SOON! IT IS SO REFRESHING TO READ GOOD FICTION THAT IS WHOLESOME AND NOT OFFENSIVE TO THE STANDARD OF LIFE THAT IS ALL IMPORTANT TO ME. I FREQUENTLY SHARE WITH ONE OFF MY TEENAGE GRANDDAUGHTERS BOOKS OF THIS TYPE AND DELIGHT IN HER ENJOYMENT OF THEM AS SHE LOVES LOSING HERSELF IN A BOOK AS OFTEN AS SHE CAN FIT IT INTO HER OTHERWISE BUSY SCHEDULE.
