From the Ashes,
By
This review is from: From the Ashes (Love Spectrum Romance) (Paperback)
I can't tell you how much I was looking forward to this book only to be let down. It's the story of Paige Turner, an African American fashion model from New York and Lincoln (Linc) Cross, a Native American architec from Michigan. While vacationing at her family home, it suddenly burns to the ground and Linc- one of the volunteer firefighters who helps put it out - comforts her. Their attraction is immediate! Soon it's discovered the police believe Paige started the fire for the insurance and Paige learns that there are several people who want her land among them, Jack Devlin a firefighter/bed-and-breafast owner and the man she is beginning to fall in love with, Linc. The story began well. I immediately felt Paige and Linc's attraction to one another and I enjoyed how they were easing into love - the part where Paige falls into the river and Linc tries to help dry her off was innocently erotic - but suddenly the story takes off in several different directions. Paige's friend Mara's shows up and begins a relationship with Jack. Suddenly it begins to take over the story. The writers should have either left Mara out all together and made Jack - along with Linc - interested in Paige or made Mara and Jack's romance into it's own book instead of taking away from Paige and Linc's romance. Then other unnecessary characters began invading the plot. What was the point of Pazi and Wynona and why does Bill suddenly showing up at the bar? I could understand Ada but at the last minute throwing in Orin!? The part that really disappointed me was that I thought I had bought a romance novel. Except for what I'd already mentioned and a few kisses here and there, Paige and Linc's show of affection seemed to be thrown in as an after thought ESPECIALLY the actual moment they consummated their love. There were chapters and chapters of endless and unnecessary blubber and barely a paragraph about their night of passion. Again, the book and it's premise were enticing but it didn't live up to it's potential.

A Suspenseful Page-Turner,

This review is from: From the Ashes (Love Spectrum Romance) (Paperback)
Interracial romances/marriages are a fact of life in our world. Sadly, the romance genre has been rather slow at playing catch-up with modern times.I enjoyed 'From the Ashes'. First, the lead character, Paige, is a refreshing treat from the typical size six romance heroine. She's a character that many women could relate to, considering the average woman in America wears a size 12 to 14. I especially liked the way the authors described Paige's body type, both playful and affirming. I loved the fact that Paige was a model. I'd like to see more romance authors be as bold. The fact that there was a conflict of cultures--namely that of Linc's and of Paige's, was eye-opening to say the least. And the conflict wasn't sugar-coated. I am extremely thankful that at least ONE romance publishing company has the guts and the savvy foresight to take romance to the next level. I'm also looking forward to more books by these two writers.

A friend of mine at work suggested I read this book. Since she's an avid reader and knows good books when she reads them I went out and bought From The Ashes. I'm glad I did. It's a wonderful story with enough mystery to keep me on the edge of my seat. And I loved the way the heroine's race, being black is not dominate to the story as the Indian Hero is not either. This book will remain on my library shelf.

At first I thought it was going to be just another romance(I received it as a gift) but then I could not put it down. I think what I really liked was that the herione was not a size 6, she was beautiful, intelligent and average size with the rest of America, yet she found love and romance. The suspense is truly a page turner. Hope you all like is as much as I do.

This was a outstanding book. Hats off to the writers! I fell in love with both Linc and Paige. I really identified with Paige. Thanks for creating such a positive image for plus sized women. You were able to show that you don't have to be a size 10 to have it all. Paige was beautiful, sucessful and desirable. I loved the way that the two cultures melted together. The wedding ceremony was very touching, Thanks for a wonderful book.

Totally Captivating,

This review is from: From the Ashes (Love Spectrum Romance) (Paperback)
FROM THE ASHES is a combination of two cultures and the authors do an wonderful job of portraying each one, then mixing them together to give a provocative romantic suspense. The mystery of who and why is intensely gripping, it had me anchored to the pages, waiting for the next twist. I was spellbound by their handling of the sexual tension between the hero and heroine. The secondary characters were given just the right amount of time and were truly a integral part of the story. The dramatic ending was totally captivating. I was thoroughly entertained, and look forward to more from this splendid writing team.

This book had definit possibilities. However, the authors moved the story along a little to fast. Because of the fast pace of the story the characters lacked real depth. Even the secondary characters got together to fast, You really didn't see much of their relationship, and all of the sudden their married. Although I do happen to like a story that moves along, I think they should have concentrated more on Paige's and Linc's relationship. Instead of using the destiny thing the should have let it develop more naturally. I wouldn't mind trying these authors again.

This was a book that I waited a while to read. I was hooked instantly in the beginning of the story. Linc and Paige are awsome characters, and the heat from the two rolls of the pages. Although I prefer a little more descriptive form for intimate scenes but the message was conveyed all the same. I loved that they brought in the Native American culture here. Genius! Not often to see the traditional side of the NA culture. The suspense part was a little lackign as I figured the plot from the first few chapters. Still was an excellent book!!
