ashes of paradise,
By ann jones (america) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ashes of Paradise (Plantation Letters, Book 1) (Paperback)
Ashes of paradise was one of the most meaningful pieces of fiction literary I have picked up in some time. I found myself so full of love after reading this novel. Quite controversial for the times, or even today's times yet I found myself with a smile on my face with each page, filled with love. The books has not, for whatever reason, been rated and I found it an excellent read and have been ever since watching the book shelves awaiting the second in this supposedly trilogy, very anxiously awaiting I might add. Mr. Elwood put together an excellent literary piece, most excellent, in this book.

Ashes of Paradise,

I just finished reading this book. It addressed several issues that I have faced and also some that needed answers. I expressly liked the way others were won to a deeper experience with the Lord and to having a better attitude about slaves and their fellow man. Love was expressed in the home, while teaching the daughter about the attitudes of the world. There are incidences involving Sojourn Truth and Mr. Abraham Lincoln. It brought out an impressive view of Louisiana and situations found there. It is written just prior to the Civil War. Would love to read a follow-up sequel, but, from the Epilogue at the end I get the feeling that regressing into the past history of "Dixie" was too much and that there might not be one. I would love to have the next book on Charity's life!
