Book Description

Ring around a rosie … Leah desperately flees her past as a member of a gang and takes up youth work at a church in inner city Phoenix, Arizona. But when a coworker disappears and her brother dies of mysterious causes, Leah finds herself searching for answers in her past. More lives are claimed, and each victim sports classic signs of a deadly virus—an aggressive form of yersinia pestis, otherwise known as the Bubonic plague. Leah panics as she realizes that each victim is linked to her past and a nursery rhyme with a dark history. In spite of the danger, Leah must confront the one person she fears most and unravel the mysterious rhyme in order to save her life and the lives of those she loves most.

Ashes, Ashes is the third book in the Shadows in the Nursery series by bestselling mystery and suspense writer and Christian author Tamara Shoemaker. Her protagonists face the harsh realities of a dark world as they struggle with issues of faith, trust and forgiveness. But betrayal, secrets and evil surface in unlikely places; and tidy resolutions may not be realistic for these tortured souls.

Tamara Shoemaker has a gift for creating twisted plots that also speak to the heart of the human condition, trust and redemption.

4.0 out of 5 stars We All Fall Down March 27, 2014
Format:Paperback
This third title in the Shadows in the Nursery series is filled with the same engaging writing we have come to expect from Shoemaker. The story follows Leah, a former gang member, turned youth worker at an inner city church. Fast-paced and intense, yet intertwined with the beautiful thread of redemption God works in a life willingly surrendered to Him.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ashes, Ashes March 24, 2014
By Angie
Format:Kindle Edition
Ashes, Ashes is a hit with drama and suspense, creepy twists and turns, a touch of romance and an overall view of God's love for all His children! (Even those who feel our past may be unworthy of his Love.) As an avid reader of almost any genre, I've never seen a more creative "weapon" used. :) The story flowed easily but was not predictable. My favorite of the Shadows in the Nursery series. I can't wait to see what Shoemaker will come up with next!!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you loved her before... April 12, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
...you'll love her again. Tamara Shoemaker spins a great suspense novel with Ashes, Ashes and you will not be disappointed. Once you pick this book up it is hard to put down! The tale of Leah and her story of redemption keeps the pages moving well into the night. It is a great Christian novel with a message behind the mystery. And just when you think you've got things figured out, bam! It turns out you were all wrong. I strongly recommend you pick this book up and start reading it as soon as you can!

This book is a must read. I found t to be chilling, thrilling and it grabbed me from page one to the very end.

It is a work of fiction, but it is so well presented that you will feel like you are right in the center of the action. For those who know me from reviews I write, my sign of a great story is when I stop letting Kindle read to me and I actually read it myself. Well, I read over 50% of this book and enjoyed it immensely. There are no sex scenes in this story. Actually, I don't even remember any cuss words. There is a bit of religion in this story. I personally do not feel it is over and above. It fits perfectly into the story line as this group work out of a Church.

There is one psycho banana who is intent on resurrecting his dead wife so they can live happily ever after. It is this man and his father who cause many deaths and victimize our main female character Leah. This psycho injects those he no longer wants around with the Bubonic Plague. There is one reviewer who the author refers to this plague as a virus it is shoddy research on the part of the author. Well, seriously, it is such a great story why quibble about this? Then it has not been proven 100% that it is not a virus, so who cares.

Not sure, but I think this is my first experience with this author. I will not hesitate to read any of her novels in the future. I really enjoyed it.

In case you have not guessed, I do recommend this book for ages 16 on up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, Christian based page turner
This book was such a blessing. I love action, adventure type books, but so many out there have a lot of profanity and as a Christian it makes them tough to get through. Read more

Fans of James Patterson will enjoy the story line but without the harshness of the crude language and an understanding of morality and from where that comes.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Black Death was/is caused by a bacteria
Not a virus and that's just the first wrongness. Even when you write fiction, it pays to do just the tiniest bit of research.

More About the Author

As a child, Tamara kept reams of scrawled-on notebook paper with paragraph after paragraph of books endings. She loved to read, but if a book left her unsatisfied, she created her own ending, then would announce triumphantly to friends and family that Scarlett O'Hara did indeed get "back together" with Rhett Butler, or that the Little Mermaid actually did end up with her prince after all instead of being carried off into the heavens after she died (Disney took a page from her notes instead of remaining true to Hans Christian Anderson).

As she grew, Tamara began to create her own story lines and characters from the end of a much-chewed pencil (before the overwhelming convenience of laptops). In 2006, on a dare from her husband, Tamara sat down and wrote her first book, BROKEN CROWNS. She finished in three months, and filled with excitement and the promise of a viable career, she submitted her book to the publishing world, confident that it would be snapped up immediately, and she and her husband could retire on the money that would begin flowing in.

After months of rejections and disillusionment, Tamara finally retired her manuscript and accepted her lot in life: wife, mother, normal individual.

In 2012, Tamara listened to a random suggestion from a friend to submit her manuscript to a small publishing company based in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. She did so, and lo and behold, Route 11 Publications accepted the book!

Since the publication of BROKEN CROWNS, Tamara penned two more mystery suspense books to complete the Shadows in the Nursery series: PRETTY LITTLE MAIDS and ASHES, ASHES.

Finished with those, Tamara turned her attention to the Young Adult Fantasy market, her favorite genre, and wrote her first book in a fantasy trilogy: the yet-to-be-published MARK OF FOUR.

When Tamara is not glued to her laptop, it's a pretty safe bet that she can be found sneaking chocolate from the pantry out of sight of her kids' prying eyes and entrenching her nose firmly in a book.
