Product Description

If you're learning or teaching, the Kiwi is the right wheel for you. The double treadle makes spinning more comfortable, it also makes it easier to stop and start. There are add on kits available that allow you to adapt the wheel to spin different types of yarn. This is a great wheel and value for beginning spinners!

Every other wheel hit my knees or was awkward to sit at to spin.

I am a male that stands 6'4", so I wanted to sit and try a wheel before I plunked down my hard earned money. I went to The Mannings (a fiber shop that gives many classes), and sat at every wheel that was under $500 (my self imposed limit). Every other wheel hit my knees or was awkward to sit at to spin. When I sat down at the Kiwi, it just fit! It felt like it was made for me. I can't speak for shorter people, but if you have any height, I think you will like the Kiwi. Wonder of wonders, when I looked at the price tag, it was the least expensive wheel that they sold. Man, can you beat that! I have now gone through at least 3-4 pounds of roving, and love the Kiwi even more. If you can afford it, get the Jumbo Spinning Head. It makes plying much easier and I like the slightly slower speed of the Jumbo head. By the way, you can still use the regular bobbins on the Jumbo head. I spin onto the regular bobbins, then ply onto the Jumbo bobbins. If you can't tell, I love my Kiwi and can't recommend it more. It's the best.

This is a family owned business. I know this because one of the smaller pieces showed up looking as though it had gotten damaged during shipping. I called and talked to one of the family members that owns the business. They had a replacement piece to me in 2 days; their customer service was excellent. The product is of superb quality. My overall experience with this item and this business leaves me wanting to give them as much business as possible. If you need to get anything that is involved in the process of taking wool or other materials from its natural state to yarn, this is the place to go. I'm sure they do other stuff, too, but I wasn't really looking for that.

We were a little surprised that not only was it unfinished but unassembled, but it went together easily. I've never spun before, so this is a new adventure. It does seem easy and comfortable to use, and I am still learning. The instructions for assembly were quite clear and the instructions for spinning very helpful. It is hardwood, except for the particle board wheel.

My husband just bought the Ashford Kiwi for me yesterday and I am already loving it. I had the Ashford traditional spinning wheel and could never quite master it. The Kiwi is so comfortable and easy to use, it is making spinning enjoyable. My wheel was a display model so already put together. It is compact which is really great for a small house/apartment. I would most definitely recommend this wheel for anyone wanting to try their hand at spinning. Very affordable and easy to use. I did some research before choosing this wheel, all reviews I read were positive. Did not get an owners manual with it so had to look up online for directions to change bobbins, which I found, and glad I checked first. Mine came with the lazy kate and two extra bobbins and the seller threw in a bottle of oil for the wheel along with a sample bag of fibers to play with. Happy Spinning!!

This was one of the most enjoyable building projects I ever did. All the parts fit together perfectly, great craftmanship! And they give you just about everything you need in the kit (you only additionally need a hammer and philips screwdriver if I remember right). The instructions were very easy, you just follow the pictures. The only things I had a little trouble with in assembly were step 13, and that I needed to get someone stronger than me to hammer the rod into the wheel for attaching it. For step 13, you only need to know 2 things you might not notice. One, notice that there is a hole in the tension knob that the fishing line must go through, and two, do the fishing line exactly like pictured (you can't tie regular knots in it, you need a wrap knot similar to how the wire was when you opened it. Look up fisherman's knots if confused.)

If your wheel squeaks, try putting your feet closer to the footmen when you spin, it shouldn't squeak anymore. Spinning is easy, I love it, and I love this wheel!

Ashford's Kiwi is the first wheel I've owed, but I've used others in classes and shops. It is, by far, the easiest to get the hang of that I've used. Comfortable to spin on, easy to load and unload. Very happy with this wheel- spun ~100 yards on my first night.
Assembly required but instructions are very good. As a reference- I found it the same or easier to assemble as your typical piece of furniture from Ikea.
