"Let us recall the illusion",
By Jon Graham (Rochester, Vermont USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Asia & Haiti (New American Poetry) (Paperback)
"Asia & Haiti" is one of those epic poetic events like Aimé Cesaire's "Return to My Native Land" or Frank Stanford's "The Battlefield Where the Moon Says I Love You" that redefine the poetic landscape to such an extent that one can no longer imagine the world without them. "Asia & Haiti" is a remarkable exploration of history and spirit from an oblique angle that allows the shadows cast by his subject matter to be revealed in all their torturous complexity. The gnomic density of Will Alexander's splendid Maldorian phrases is the perfect antitdote to the culture of the sound bite.
