Book Description

July 5, 1993
At Manzhouli, near the border of China, Siberia, and Mongolia, the Chinese launch their charge into the woods. There is the roar of fire--and from the other side, the eruption of the SAS/D's Heckler & Koch 9mm parabellums firing at over eight hundred rounds a minute, the crash of grenades, and the terrible whistling of flechettes. Suddenly the sky is aglow with phospherous flares like shooting stars, as the ChiComs' four 120-pound Soviet-type Aphid missiles streak toward the B-52 at 2,800 meters per second. It's all-out war....

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

This is Slater's ( World War III: Warshot ) sixth installment in a series about a hypothetical third world war some time in the near future. A tense cease-fire is in effect between the United States and a shaky alliance of Communist China and a new United Siberian Republic. But the Chinese are in fact regathering their forces for another push into Manchuria, a territory over which they have long battled with the Siberians. The only person who seems to have clear insight into the political and military realities is General Douglas Freeman, who is considered "the greatest American general since Patton and Schwarzkopf" and sneeringly refers to the folks at the Pentagon as "the fairies." Freeman has many opponents in his battle to keep the world safe for freedom and democracy, including the traitorous industrial magnate Jay La Roche, who provided weapons to the Chinese while they were slaughtering American troops. There is plenty of intrigue and adventure here but the two-dimensional, comic-book feel of it all and the military hardware mumbo jumbo don't do much to advance the narrative, which would be hard to keep up with under the best of circumstances.

4.0 out of 5 stars Asian Front, February 27, 2000
By
This review is from: Asian Front: WW III (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed all the WW III books, but and this one of no exception. THe characters are interesting, like Aussie and the Brentwood Brothers, and technology is very accurate and in-depth. However, I noticed that Slater has a tendency to counter items he has written before and ignore information in previous books. I was constantly looking back to earlier chapters and earlier books because i could have sworn that that character had died already (Sonarman Rogers dies like four different times). Over looking these minor problems, the books are very interesting and engrossing.

I think this book is a masterpiece. It is the incredible story of a war between the USA backed UN force and China. The characters are excellent such as General Freeman and Aussie Lewis. I highly suggest you buy it.

Call me crazy but this entire WWIII series by slater is a guilty pleasure of mine. I like clancy and bond as much as anyone else but this series is great if you like a lot more action.
