Editorial Reviews

From Danny and Oxide Pang, the directors of The Eye, Bangkok Dangerous and the upcoming Sam Raimi produced The Messengers, Panik House is proud to present a two disc set of unparalleled horror.

Bangkok Haunted

Three women converge in a Bangkok pub to share individual tales of the supernatural. Drinks flow, secrets are revealed and a trio of stories illuminates what looms on The Other Side.

Part One: Legend of the Drum Youthful antiques dealer Jieb is intrigued when she mysteriously receives a decades-old drum. Soon afterward, Jieb is plagued by disturbing dreams and the haunting murmurs of a disembodied female voice. Convinced that the drum is the catalyst for these strange occurrences, Jieb sets out to discover the origin of the instrument - only to be confronted by horrific realizations about herself.

Part Two: Black Magic Woman Tired of single life in the big city, Bangkok beauty Pan longs for the happiness of true romance. Her prayers seem answered when she partakes of an exotic elixir called "Black Magic Woman". After just a few small dabs, Pan has no trouble attracting the man of her dreams, but what starts as affection quickly spirals into obsession, and Pan learns the price of becoming truly irresistible.

Part Three: Revenge Nop is a hard working police cadet unable to shake the untimely death of an attractive woman named Gunya. While his superiors rule her hanging a suicide, Nop is convinced otherwise and pursues his own investigation. To his surprise, he finds himself guided in his work by a spirit, but not even otherworldly intervention can prepare him for the shocking truth of Gunya's demise.

Omen

Three young friends who share an office - Dan, Beem and Big (played by popular Thai boy band D2B) - encounter a spooky old woman who makes grim predictions for their futures. Disturbed by her declarations, each of the men is thereafter confronted by unsettling occurrences. Dan cannot escape a haunting image. Beem meets an attractive young woman who may be dangerously attracted to him. Big faces impossibly strong winds and the appearance of a mysterious boy selling garlands. All these strange events lend credence to the old woman's words. Are they omens of inevitable doom? Can the friends take any action to change their fates?

Directed by Thammarak Kamuttmanoch and written by Oxide and Danny Pang, Omen is a wild thrill-ride that bends times and space, blasts apart viewers' expectations and reinvents the possibilities of the otherworldly thriller. You've never seen anything like Omen, and you'll never forget it once you've experienced all this extraordinary film has to offer.

Bangkok's a little slow, but not bad, maybe 3 stars.
Omen is the better of the 2 -- I give it 4 stars. Interesting movie.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not much Pang in this, July 7, 2007

Contrary to the hype on the packaging, there isn't much Pang in these "Pang Brothers" discs. If you're expecting to get 3 hours of the same quality and frights as you would from a viewing of "The Eye", then move on.

"The Omen" was written by a Pang, but directed and edited by someone completely different. "Bangkok Haunted" is a three-story anthology, only one of which is directed by Oxide Pang... which is good. But that's all the Pang this 2-movie "Pang Brothers" really only has to offer.
