The East Asia Analytical Unit is the main agency within the Australian Government responsible for publishing analyses of major economic and political issues in Asia. Established in 1990, the EAAU is located within the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Canberra. Now staffed with five professionals, the EAAU also contracts consultants with specific areas of expertise. It draws on a wide range of data and information sources, including reports from Australia's diplomatic and trade missions in Asia.
