Enter the maze of out of print books...CONFUSING!, August 6, 2010
This review is from: Isaac Asimov Presents the Golden Years of Science Fiction (Third Series) (Hardcover)
If you recognize the SF written in the early 20th Century was the apogee of speculative fiction (as do I) then this is a series for you. Check out the youtube vids of Asimov, too. He was cool with his mutton chops. Quite a smart dude.
Here's what Wiki says about this series:
Isaac Asimov Presents The Golden Years of Science Fiction, Second Series is a 1983 hardcover reprint of Isaac Asimov Presents The Great SF Stories 3 (1941) and Isaac Asimov Presents The Great SF Stories 4 (1942). It is the second in a series of 6 two-volume books which together reprinted the first 12 of 25 books in the Isaac Asimov Presents The Great SF Stories series of compilations.
Okay, that's sort of right and sort of not. Most the hard covers listed for sale now are both volumes under one cover, so all you need is one book labeled "Second Series" for instance.
Trying to assemble a complete set as I am? Be careful. Many books are listed incorrectly. Many booksellers don't know what they have. Amazon out of stock or too expensive. Check out other out of print book search sites to get an idea of what's listed. Most can be had for half the cost of a supermarket trash novel.
Due to our antiquated © laws, these are out of print and will stay that way, just as will 75% of the books ever written in America. Ain't copyright great?
And don't miss Asimov's Before the Golden Age Series. They're a gold mine of great writing.
