I can't say enough about Yoko Kanno - she and the seatbelts are so versatile and amazingly talented, their lyrics don't disappoint, and the singers chosen are spot-on perfect. This is the bonus second CD with Future Blues for the Cowboy Bebop movie.
1. What planet is this - an upbeat big band song, not my favorite but very reminiscent of cowboy bebop in general so it definitely serves its purpose. 2. Ask DNA - a mellow, chill song. Laid-back with a nice little beat and hook. 3. Cosmic Dare (Pretty with a Pistol) - a very memorable song from the movie. Really fun, and incredibly catchy. 4. Hamduche - interesting contrast after Cosmic Dare. Quiet with just piano and vocals. Has a middle-eastern sound and the piano adds a nice dimension to it. 5. Is it real? - my favorite, and actually my current favorite song, period. Melancholy with beautiful vocals and a sensitively played piano that emphasizes the sadness of the lyrics, and such a great melody. Everything in it works to perfection. I love the way the songs offset each other... Like the other CB soundtracks, it feels like a mix tape of your favorite songs (which reminds me again of how amazing Kanno is!). And the songs here are some of my favorites of all the other CB songs - there's something here for every taste.

FANTASTIC CD,

I think this is an AMAZING CD. Each song is an image-song for the characters in the movie. Track #1 is VERY popular in Japan, and one can see why: It's very upbeat and catchy ! Track #2, the opening song to the movie is like one of those songs that get stuck in your head, and is pretty upbeat. Track #3 is the song played, when Faye is flying over Mars, looking for the bounty-head, in Redtail. Track #4 is Mid-Eastern/Moroccantype stuff. It's good in it's own way ! and track #5 is my personal favorite, making good use of the vaccuum tube amplifier. Tim Jensen's melancholic voice adds to the melancholic/depressed feeling of the song. I'd recommend this CD to anyone, BeBop fan or not ! It's got GREAT music!

More Knockin' on Heavens Door music,
By "kogeneko" (Davis, CA USA) - See all my reviews

This is a maxi-single for Ask DNA, the opening song of the Cowboy Bebop movie Knockin' on Heavens Door. Despite paying roughly [money] a song (the album runs around [money] depending on where you shop), this is still a must for fans of Yoko Kanno and Seatbelts. Contains the ever rousing "What Planet is This", the title track "Ask DNA", the groovy Faye song "Cosmic Dare (Pretty as a Pistol)", a nice middle-eastern flavored vocal/piano duet "Hamduche", and the moody "Is it real?" Comes packaged in a slimline jewelcase with a glossy foldout insert that lists the lyrics for "Ask DNA", "Cosmic Dare", and "Is it real?" as well as some fun pictures of YK and ken.

Except for track 1, this CD contains tracks not found on the soundtrack album "O.S.T. Future Blues" for the film "COWBOY BEBOP: Knockin' On Heaven's Door". This version of "What Planet Is This" is the shorter version. The extended version can be found on the "O.S.T. Future Blues" CD
