Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Ask Dr. Weil is a combination of six previously published collections of questions that he received on his Web site: Women's Health, Healthy Living, Natural Remedies, Common Illnesses, Vitamins and Minerals, and Your Top Health Concerns. Those who've read Weil's books--particularly Spontaneous Healing, 8 Weeks to Optimum Health, and Natural Health, Natural Medicine--will find familiar advice here. In that sense, Ask Dr. Weil serves as a solid and thorough introduction to his ideas and methods, while the other books present those ideas in more depth.

What Ask Dr. Weil may lack in depth, though, it more than makes up for in breadth. For example, in a question about enemas--which he's against--he notes that constipation was once considered an affliction exclusive to the most noble and intelligent men, and that Louis XIV of France sometimes took four enemas a day. A surprising opinion comes in response to a question about the once-popular abdominal-training devices sold on infomercials. "A super-flat abdomen with tight, rippling muscles will restrict the motion of the intestines during digestion," he writes. His suggestion: do some crunches, but don't try to look like the men and women in Bally's gym commercials.

In fact, just when you think you can predict which way Dr. Weil will go on an issue, he surprises you by being skeptical about a popular nutritional supplement or treatment. Even in a simple question-and-answer format such as this, the good doctor manages to be entertaining and iconoclastic. --Lou Schuler --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dr. Weil is your trusted expert on health, April 5, 2000
This review is from: Ask Dr. Weil (Paperback)
I first heard of Dr. Weil while watching a show on TV. His calming voice and interesting breathing techniques got my attention. I was interested in Yoga and could relate to the calming effects of a peaceful lifestyle.

This book is a complement to all the great work Dr. Weil has done. I also recently purchased his CD called Sound Body,Sound Mind and play it often to recieve the benefits of deep relaxation, not to mention the healing effects. I used to drink Decaf coffee but still felt that it affeted my sleep. Dr. Weil had the answer!

I started drinking a relaxing tea for improved sleep. I also take my vitamin C, cook with lots of garlic and take echinacea as advised. While no one could have all the ailments discussed - you will feel like an expert when a friend asks you for a solution to their problem.

If you find even one solution to a need in your life - I think this book would be worth purchasing. Also look for Dr. Weil's Guide to Optimum Health - A complete course on how to feel better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ask Dr. Weill by the author, October 27, 2003
This review is from: Ask Dr. Weil: The Complete Series in One Volume (Random House Large Print) (Paperback)
This is an excellent work which focuses on the alternative
medicinal protocols. For instance, Dr. Weill recommends utilizing
fresh ginger and dried feverfew for arthritic patients plaqued
by autoimmune problems and issues. In addition, he cites the
use of tumeric three times a day for arthritis. He would treat
bee stings with tea tree oil. The author recommends the use
of magnets for arthritic problems-particularly the "Northern"
pole of the magnetic known for its alternative medicinal
benefit. Dr. Weill indicates that psyllium is a superior
source of fiber. In addition, Selenium is useful for colon and
prostate cancer. This work is a worthy addition to any health
library. It is perfect for a science project on the alternative
medicinal protocols.

3.0 out of 5 stars Weil is great, but you want..., January 2, 2007
This review is from: Ask Dr. Weil (Paperback)
Dr Weil is the most popular, and rightfully so, holistic doctor around. He really knows the real deal, and writes very simple and easy to understand. However, the book you want to buy (and live by), is "eating Well for Optimum health." I was a top Personal Trainer for years, a bodybuilder, powerlifter, and nutritional consultant for years, soon to be publishing a book of my own. i can tell you for sure, unlike many (most?) other crap out there, weil is not influenced by any outside financial sources, nor does he fall into any mainstream traps of deception most wanna-be nutritionists (with a bogus licences from the corrupt American Diatetic Association) write about and talk about on TV, which only lead to more confusion. Weil is the real deal.
