Book Description

Caitlin McIntyre's heart stops when her best friend drops to one knee and proposes. Kyle Lockhart never once hinted over the years that he has any idea she's in love with him. Not wanting to jeopardize their friendship, she's never let it slip. Good thing, too, since it turns out he's only practicing—he's about to propose to someone else.

A business merger might not be the most romantic reason to propose to a woman he barely knows, but Kyle's determined to win the respect of the dying father who's never seen him as quite good enough. Kyle's always depended on Caitlin's friendship, while trying to ignore the physical response she arouses. So he turns to her when it comes time to craft his proposal, not realizing his decision will affect their relationship, forever.

This Christmas, Kyle and Caitlin get one last chance to admit their feelings for each other, and find a mutual happily ever after, before he commits his life to another woman and Caitlin leaves town and him…for good.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great Christmas love story December 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
REVIEWED BY SUNNY

Kyle, a computer geek who is not good with romantic words, needs to ask his best friend, Caitlyn, for help with how to propose to another woman. Unwisely, the way he lets her in on this plan is with the following opening line of the book: "Caitlyn McIntyre, will you marry me?" This creates a shocking experience for her and certainly got my attention. Christi Barth masterfully turns this opening line into a story of two friends working through a delicate situation where the desire to get approval from a father and to do anything for the friend you love takes top priority no matter what the cost.

The premise of the book is to come up with a great proposal by Christmas, and Christi Barth gives us a glimpse of the beautiful city of Chicago at this magical time of year. Her personal experience as a wedding planner also shines through in ASK HER AT CHRISTMAS. I enjoyed the proposal ideas Caitlyn came up with for Kyle, but for some reason, he doesn't connect with any of them, so Caitlyn has to keep trying. The undercurrent of their mutual but unknown feelings for each other creates quite a dynamic between these two great friends.

Caitlyn and Kyle have a lot of fun together and rely heavily on each other's friendship, but they are surrounded and smothered by very selfish characters in this book. It is hard to embrace these callous characters, but I liked their contribution to the story. They helped thicken the plot and it strengthened the struggles the hero and heroine are dealing with. I was really rooting for Caitlyn and Kyle, but the others that I loved to hate sure made it difficult for them both. Christi Barth does a wonderful job of pulling this all together in a great Christmas love story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Christmas Romance ~ United By Books April 19, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Caitlin can't believe it when her long time best friend not to mention guy she has been in love with forever drops to his knee and asks her to marry him. Unlucky for her, hunky, geeky, IT guy Kyle was just practicing for when he drops the question for his on again off again girlfriend. You see Kyle loves Caitlin, but is caught between a rock and a hard place. He is always trying to please his father and thinks proposing to current girlfriend, whom he has no feelings for, will help merge his and her father's company and will make his dad happy. Caitlin puts her feelings to the side and try's to put a sunny disposition into play while she tries to help him with the perfect romantic Christmas proposal.

Where to begin.... Ok I enjoyed this cute holiday read. I have to admit that I wanted to bap both characters in the noggin for not going after what they wanted, which was each other. Though I found it endearing as well to see how Barth turned the story out. I love friends to lovers stories. Who doesn't want to wind up with a person they consider their best friend right? Caitlin was relatable and even though I like my heroines a bit sassier, I liked her sweetness plus at the end she took charge in her own way.

Kyle was driving me nuts. I like a geeky hot guy as much as the next, but I kept yelling ‘man up’ at my Kindle. Luckily for him, he finally did and I didn't have to chuck something at his head mentally.

Barth pulled out a sweet holiday read. Even though the characters will drive you nuts and get on your nerves from time to time you will also fall in love with them and root for them. At least this reader did.

We start off with Kyle getting down on one knee and proposing to an unsuspecting Cailtin. At first she figures that she must be dreaming because there is no way that her prayers have been answered and her best friend , who she's secretly been in love with, is asking her to marry her. But it's not a dream, he's actually proposing... well sort of. He's actually practicing how he will propose to his girlfriend of 6 months and is hoping that Caitlin will help him come up with a proposal that no woman could say no to.

I thought that this was a cute holiday romance. I'm not one for novellas and I was a little nervous that I would have a problem connecting with the characters, which happens to be the case between short stories and myself. However, I was wrapped up in Kyle's and Caitlin's story immediately. I really liked the way the author wrote the story and found myself liking the characters that she created as well. Being that it is a short story, we really only get to see Caitlin, Kyle and a snippet of the Bridezilla to be, Monica. I really wish that this was a full length novel though. I felt like the moment the story started, it ended. I would have loved to read more of Caitlin and Kyle's story. However, the short ride was well worth it :) I just wish there was more :( I guess I'm greedy like that. HaHa

4.0 out of 5 stars It will keep you warm. January 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Caitlin McIntyre can not believe her eyes or her ears. Her best friend, Kyle Lockhart has just proposed to her. Too bad, it is not for real. Kyle is practicing on Caitlin for when he proposes to his girlfriend, Monica. Caitlin will have to try really hard to put on a happy face. Especially since she has been asked to help Kyle plan the perfect proposal. Will Caitlin speak up before it is too late?

Ask Her at Christmas by Christi Barth is part of an anthology titled, Romancing the Holiday. Although this story can be read separately. I am not usually a fan of holiday stories but I thought this book was a good one. It had the feel of a good Christmas story. Also, I felt the chemistry between Caitlin and Kyle. However, I do have to say that Kyle was just like a typical guy and dense in the head. It took him a long time to figure out that Caitlin was the right woman for him. Luckily he did discover it just in the nick of time. How Kyle was able to last with Monica for as long as he did at six months is beyond me. Monica was a hateful woman. I wanted to wring her neck. Of course, I also felt like Caitlin should have stood up to Monica. Although I could forgive Caitlin for not being as strong as she was so nice. Ask Her at Christmas is an ideal stocking stocker for the holidays. It will keep you warm.
