It truly is wonderful. I loved this book so much I bought it for several of my friends during Christmas! I'm very picky with my literature and find alot of Christian books to be repetitious and BORING nowadays.

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, interesting, but fell a little short
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was short, fairly easy to understand, and had some very comical stories and advice. This professor obviously cares very deeply for his students--and after attending a private, Catholic university for a semester and beginning my second, I can't help but wish I had a professor here that was like who he says he is! It truly is wonderful. I loved this book so much I bought it for several of my friends during Christmas! I'm very picky with my literature and find alot of Christian books to be repetitious and BORING nowadays.

"ASK ME ANYTHING" does a wonderful job of taking ridiculously tough questions and making them simple enough for highschool kids to grab hold of. And the most amazing part of Budziszewski's approach is that MOST (if not all) of his responses are relatively UNHEARD of.

His reasons to wait till marriage for sex, his beliefs about war and homosexuality are perspectives I've never considered. This book is a MUST BUY for seekers of TRUTH. =)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read for Christian College Students, January 10, 2005
This review is from: Ask Me Anything: Provocative Answers for College Students (Paperback)
Budziszewski writes well for those seeking traditional Chrisitan stances on controversial issues such as premarital sex, dating, homosexuality, integrity etc. Although he waxes much on homosexuality, Budziszewski significantly articulates the importance of developing a mature Christian worldview, or way of seeing the world. This would be a great present for recent high school grads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Straight forward and Hard hitting, February 17, 2005
This review is from: Ask Me Anything: Provocative Answers for College Students (Paperback)
J knocks another home run with this book. We used it in conjunction with How to Stay a Christian in College for a series of lessons with our Campus Ministry. J delivers real answers to provocative questions. Rather than saying because I told you so, he paints vivid pictures of true Christian world views. As the cover states, no topic is taboo. He hits on relationships and sex, faith on campus, war, homosexuality and other pertinent questions. A must have for any college student, or anyone with a relation to students.

4.0 out of 5 stars Real answers to real issues college students face, June 26, 2006
This review is from: Ask Me Anything: Provocative Answers for College Students (Paperback)
What issues are college students dealing with today - the same sex, drugs and rock n' roll from the `60s, or have they added some new ones, too? Well, to find out, you need to ask Professor Theophilus on the popular Focus on the Family college website called Boundless. The good professor is none other than UT philosophy and government professor J. Budziszewski, author of the incredible book How to Stay Christian in College. And Budziszewski ought to know what he's talking about, he lost his faith while in college only to return like the prodigal son to his Father and now he devotes himself to answering the longing questions of the truly seeking. The book is simply a written version of these Internet blogging conversations and they make for very, very interesting reading.

One student wants to know if Catholics can be Christians since he is interested in dating a Catholic girl, but understands that the Bible teaches not to be unequally yoked. Another student wants to know why she doesn't feel comfortable at church. Another student writes to ask how to apologize to his girlfriend who he has wronged. Another one needs wisdom in dealing with her roommate.

The questions are poignant and telling, Budziszewski's answers are humorous at times, but always Biblically-based, brutally honest and covered with compassion for the individual and their situation. The book would be a great read for any college student, but it might be best to have parents read this to get a feel for the issues facing their children as they head off to college. And it's nice to know that if parents don't have all the answers to all the questions their students are asking, they can turn to Professor Theophilus for wisdom and direction to pass along!

4.0 out of 5 stars As a college instructor..., September 19, 2005

I found this book a tremendous help. In a day when most students of state colleges, or for that matter, the professors, know nothing of the difference between Noah and Moses, this book stands as great read for Christian students. Except for the advice to the student of Professor Pagan (p 124), I found answers I wish I could have offered to my Christian students. If the students of Professor Pagan answer him/her this way, then the student needs to know s/he is likely to get an F. I would certainly not advise doing this during class, and never with an adversarial attitude. It will get you nowhere. I'm going to give a copy of this to my own kids. And you don't need to be going to college to have these questions come up.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all who are in high school, September 7, 2005
This review is from: Ask Me Anything: Provocative Answers for College Students (Paperback)
This is fundamentally sound book. The title refers to "college students" but I think it should be presented at a high school level. I am 75 years old and I found it very enlightening. I love the way Dr. Budziszewski has answered the issues with sensitivity and love in his heart.

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, interesting, but fell a little short, January 31, 2011
This review is from: Ask Me Anything: Provocative Answers for College Students (Paperback)
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was short, fairly easy to understand, and had some very comical stories and advice. This professor obviously cares very deeply for his students--and after attending a private, Catholic university for a semester and beginning my second, I can't help but wish I had a professor here that was like who he says he is! It is evident that God is using him on that campus!

On the other hand, I had to question the realism of Budzsizeski's stories. If I remember correctly, he might have given some sort of disclaimer about their accuracy, but either way, the book came across as sort of juvenile, at it's worst mocking. I would recommend the book because of its directness and simplicity--for someone who doesn't particularly like to read, it's great--but for the mature Christian, it will seem a little dated and obvious.

However, don't get me wrong....it had me laughing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Short, sweet, not too contrived, September 10, 2007
This review is from: Ask Me Anything: Provocative Answers for College Students (Paperback)
The chapters are pieced out of actual conversations and letters, and very well done. The questions and answers themselves are right on target, and I certainly wish I had had this book when I was in college -- it would have saved me quite a bit of repenting. Seriously. Easy read. Well worthwhile

This book is absolutely amazing for any person who is a true believer in Christ but is young enough to have to deal with the issues that arise in this book will learn a lot. Being a Christian in College today is very difficult. This book and the sequel to it help you in being able to navigate these trying situations.

A must read for the college Christian!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on controversial issues, June 18, 2010

This review is from: Ask Me Anything: Provocative Answers for College Students (Paperback)
I want to echo what many of the other reviewers have said; this is a phenomenal book written by a smart author who candidly and faithfully addresses many of the most challenging issues surrounding Christian college students such as premarital sex, war, homosexuality, dating, creationism, and etc.

It's an extremely quick read that took me just a couple of hours. As an undergraduate student at a large public university (with a reputation for liberalism), I have been confronted by many if not all the issues brought up by this book.
