3.0 out of 5 stars Out of date, but has a unique perspective, May 26, 2002

This review is from: Ask Mr. Easylanguage (Paperback)
As of this writing, TradeStation is up to version 6. Version 7 is on the horizon. Ask Mr. EasyLanguage is largely based on Version 4, making only editorial insert comments about Version 5 (TS 2000i). With this in mind, the code contained in the book is probably not going to run without significant modification. Several of the key issues raised by the book, notably 'IncludeSystem' and the 64k code limit, are no longer of interest. IncludeSystem is no longer a key word. The 64k code limit has been erased.

All this in mind, I still found the book a useful resource. It represents a glimpse into the 'Easylanguage' mindset. I really couldn't point to any one phrase or topic which was individually enlightening, but from time to time, there was a moment of 'Oh, I see what those EasyLanguage programmers were doing!'

I don't think you can get that anywhere else. Admittedly, this is a rather esoteric justification for reading a book.

If you are expecting to find advanced solutions, this book will disappoint. It doesn't offer anything in terms of trading systems. The book is a technical guide to EasyLanguage, avoiding almost anything related to trading.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Easylanguage, where's the beef?, January 13, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Ask Mr. Easylanguage (Paperback)
The book promises far more than it actually delivers! It appears that orginally the author's goals might have been more ambitious but somehow, by the time he wrote the book, there were whole sections that do nothing more than list functions without so much as a one line of explanation!
The writing is rather poor and the book is poorly organized. It was written before TradeStation2000i was released and makes all sorts of confusing speculative remarks about TradeStation5.0 (which was released as 2000i)!
The book doesn't discuss programming techniques applicable to Easylanguage. basically it is difficult to say just what it is that the book does try to address!
I do not recommend this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why buy now that the same information is available for free?, November 21, 2002
This review is from: Ask Mr. Easylanguage (Paperback)
In TradeStation (I use 6), Under the Help menu, there is a Books menu item. Selecting it and you will have access to very good EasyLanguage for free (in pdf form). There is really no need to buy a book that's now outdated, and not very well-written.

1.0 out of 5 stars High Priced EasyLanguage Overview, February 25, 2002

I have to agree with the other review from Chicago posted on Jan. 13th. Not a lot of "meat" in this one. I can't say as I would recommend this book to anyone. An EasyLanguage beginner would be more confused after reading it than before. No significant info for someone who is already experienced with EL code writing. It's not very structured/organized in it's attempt to enlighten readers. Buy it as a reference manual... for that it would recieve 3 and a half stars.
