Should have done more, September 28, 2001

I bought this album on a lark about nine years ago used because I liked the duct-tape cover. Boy, was I lucky. These guys and this record are incredible. Epic sounds and inspired lyrics are all over the place. Everyone mentions the duel bass setup of the group, but don't be fooled, this is rock. Admittedly, lower Manhattan style rock twinged with a little bit of punk and industrial (I guess) but way ahead of their time nonetheless. I think that this album is better than their other two my bounds. Although White Noise is good, but out of print. A special note is the song Room 429. One of those very special songs that will stick with you for about 9 years. Apparently it is about heroin (I used to date a woman who used to date the drummer) and the pitfalls that go along with it. Who cares. The song is haunting and wonderful. So is the whole the album. Good stuff. Well worth your time.

Like good coffee: black as a damned soul and bitter as hell, May 8, 1999

If you've ever been awake at night, listening to the sounds of the city blowing in your window with the choking air, wondering if you're really alive or just caught in some fool's perverse nightmare: well, buddy, this album's for you. "Everybody Loves You (When You're Dead)" may just be the finest C$C song ever. "Cut to the Chase" "Nowhere," and "Got No Soul" satisfy even the oldest, most jaded, most impassive heart. Tod A. is at his finest musically and lyrically, and his boys are in top form as well. If you've never heard this, your soul may be a little cleaner than mine, but you sure as hell aren't having as much fun.

Godly, October 8, 1999

Awesome. 5 years since they've been gone? Sure doesnt feel like it. They peaked with "Ask Questions Later" with one hell of a fresh and exciting attack. This is one of those albums that changes your whole outlook on music. 2 bass players? No guitar? Sheet metal percussion? Great songs? You bet. Check out "Room 429" which is the best track on the album. Cop Shoot Cop - we miss ye ( but Firewater rocks too ! )
