5.0 out of 5 stars Should have done more, September 28, 2001

I bought this album on a lark about nine years ago used because I liked the duct-tape cover. Boy, was I lucky. These guys and this record are incredible. Epic sounds and inspired lyrics are all over the place. Everyone mentions the duel bass setup of the group, but don't be fooled, this is rock. Admittedly, lower Manhattan style rock twinged with a little bit of punk and industrial (I guess) but way ahead of their time nonetheless. I think that this album is better than their other two my bounds. Although White Noise is good, but out of print.

A special note is the song Room 429. One of those very special songs that will stick with you for about 9 years. Apparently it is about heroin (I used to date a woman who used to date the drummer) and the pitfalls that go along with it. Who cares. The song is haunting and wonderful. So is the whole the album. Good stuff. Well worth your time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like good coffee: black as a damned soul and bitter as hell, May 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ask Questions Later (Audio CD)
If you've ever been awake at night, listening to the sounds of the city blowing in your window with the choking air, wondering if you're really alive or just caught in some fool's perverse nightmare: well, buddy, this album's for you. "Everybody Loves You (When You're Dead)" may just be the finest C$C song ever. "Cut to the Chase" "Nowhere," and "Got No Soul" satisfy even the oldest, most jaded, most impassive heart. Tod A. is at his finest musically and lyrically, and his boys are in top form as well. If you've never heard this, your soul may be a little cleaner than mine, but you sure as hell aren't having as much fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Godly, October 8, 1999
This review is from: Ask Questions Later (Audio CD)
Awesome. 5 years since they've been gone? Sure doesnt feel like it. They peaked with "Ask Questions Later" with one hell of a fresh and exciting attack. This is one of those albums that changes your whole outlook on music. 2 bass players? No guitar? Sheet metal percussion? Great songs? You bet. Check out "Room 429" which is the best track on the album. Cop Shoot Cop - we miss ye ( but Firewater rocks too ! )

GREAT SONGS WITH A BENT OUTLOOK. AGGRESSIVE MUSIC RARELY SOUNDS SO GOOD WITHOUT GUITARS{2 BASSES & HARD KEYBOARDS}. THESE GUYS ARE SICK IN A GOOD WAY. DRAMATIC SOUNDING TERROR-ROCK. STARTS & ENDS GREAT BUT A COUPLE OF THROWAWAYS IN MIDDLE KEEP FROM FIFTH STAR RATING. THEIR BEST RELEASE.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Forgoteen Arise Again (It Makes me Miss Cthulhu!), August 6, 2010

Cleaning house unearths quite a few things that have long since been forgotten, shelves, terminated, or otherwise sent to their varied graveyards. In my house that equals a lot of little treasures rearing their heads after a long, long sleep. Heck, maybe that means that Cthulhu might show his head one of these fine days. As it is now, however, Cop Shoot Cop decided to rear their heads and I really felt the need to listen to how well they had aged. I wasn't expecting a nice blend of wine or anything amazing - this was a left-over from 1993 and I couldn't recall much of it.
I'm glad I took that plunge into the unknown - or misremembered.

CSC had two CDs that were quite impressive in their time but, when looked at now, Ask Questions Later is a great album. There are specific songs that remind me just how good music could be back then, with some punk and some metal and a little electronics to book. Everybody Loves you when your Dead, a song about how everyone, even those who hate you, love you when you pass on really is the truth. All the clocks are broken - that is just some good listening. And then there are the songs that deal with the grinding sensation of work, poverty, how the roaches get tired of doing your laundry, how rats aren't keen to help out, and so on.
I liked the playful array of songs that exist here.

If you want something to listen to that is out there but not really out there, try this out and see what you think. I recommend listening to then named songs first and going from there because the album is far from perfect. Then again, don't they all seem to be?

5.0 out of 5 stars $107.68 worth of misanthropic anthems, October 9, 2009
This review is from: Ask Questions Later (Audio CD)
That kid on the cover says it all. This is savage and ugly...crucial stuff, far ahead of its time. History repeats, black boots on faces and all of that. Here is the soundtrack to the demise of man. Beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Place of my favorite songs, August 28, 2008
This review is from: Ask Questions Later (Audio CD)
Gritty city industrial rock that says "this is tragic, see the pain, here's the punchline and we can cry/laugh and move on" commentary on life in general and specific. "Got no soul" is an artistic commentary that shreds your self-illusion of what you're really doing. When "All the clocks are broken" plays, you can almost feel the waves pounding the beach with fury, soaking you through. Acquire this rare album, put it on your computer, and keep the original in your fire-proof box of important things to cherish.

5.0 out of 5 stars consider this cd a lucky find, January 9, 1999

this is easily the best cd I've heard that isn't popular with anyone I've ever met. If you meet someone who's even heard of them you are one of few. The band cannot be described, in that they fuse a military march drumbeat to very inspiring lyrics. "I got a big black gun in my pocket...got a big black gun...let's rob the 7-11...and have some fun" Of note: Room 429 is my fav track on the cd. If my seat hadn't eaten the tape months ago, I'd be listening to it now. I'm ordering a replacement, because this isn't something you want to let out of your sight. Buy it now.
