Product Description

Jack the Ripper hides again - this time in your pocket. The scene is familiar. Gentleman Jack is loose in the streets, disguised as one of many innocents in the streets of Whitechapel. The investigators hunt him, eliminating the suspects one at a time, to reveal the villain's true identity before he escapes into the night. In Mr. Jack Pocket Edition, two players return to the scene of the crime, one to unmask the vile Mr. Jack, and the other to escape into the night. But this time, the game is all new. Suspects are printed on street tiles, and turned to hide their faces from the investigators. Four special action tiles will allow both players to maneuver the tiles and the investigators, one player trying to spot the elusive killer, and the other desperate to hide from sight.

I'm an avid gamer and initially read about this two player game on boardgamegeek.com where it is very well rated. Mr Jack Pocket is a puzzle game using line of sight between three detectives and nine Mr. Jack suspects as the game mechanic. My guy and I have brought this game along to the coffee shop and out to dinner and not only is it great for killing time, but it is small with a manageable number of pieces, and rules that are easy to understand. Finally it only takes about 15 minutes to play a game and there is high replay value, we've played 3-4 times in a row before. Overall Mr. Jack is a top notch two player game that easily fits it a coat pocket or purse.

The original Mr. Jack is great. The mechanic of the Pocket Edition is different... but excellent. (No need to have played the original to enjoy this version.) This is a perfect game for coffee shops or travel. Good quality, good visual appeal, a good mix of strategy and luck... and it's small and plays quickly. Highly recommended!

Mr. Jack Pocket is a fun game, and a brain bending game.

One player plays as Mr. Jack (the Ripper) while the other player plays the role of Sherlock Holmes, Watson, and their dog Toby!

Each turn consists of not only choosing your own move, but guessing what the other player is going to do. Each player even has some control over what the other player can do in any given round. You can prevent the other player from choosing a move, for example. (tiles determine randomly what moves are available each turn).

The goal as the investigator characters is to learn as much as they can about the suspects each turn, while Mr. Jack's role is to hide as much info as possible.

This is done my moving tiles (swapping or rotating) or investigators so they can see down the streets of Whitechapel.

The rules has several translations, and other than in one small line about Alibi Cards (Mr. Jack does not 'lose' anything if the investigator draws one) they read clearly.

The tokens, tiles and cards are all nice and thick and durable, and will handle lots of use.

This is good because the game it a battle of wits between the players, and therefore shouldn't get old to players who enjoy this type of game.

This game is deeper than you would first think. Reading the rules, it appears ridiculously easy, but it takes much more strategy than you would think. You have to plan 3 or 4 moves ahead.

The components are very sturdy and durable.

A very enjoyable game. Highly recommended.

finally, a great 2-person strategy game! It's quick and fun and small to travel with. It has lots of pieces, so you can't exactly play it in the car or anything, but it is compact. Pieces are nice and sturdy.

This is a quick 15 to 20 minute game, with short set-up and clean up. We keep it in the bedroom for a fun game before bed. Much better than reality t.v. Talk about your day while having fun together. This is a strategy game but is not an "attack-your-opponent" game that leaves couples angry at each other. The sides are well balanced and neither partner will "Win" all the time. Highly Recommend! Also, the Android AP is very realistic to true game play.

I really wanted to like this game, because I love the theme, but after a few play throughs, I feel that the game is broken. Maybe I am playing it wrong, but I have gone through the rules over and over, and I think, through some shoddy mechanic, it is nearly impossible to win as Mr. Jack. I have only one once out of like 15 games. Basically, when you play this game, you need the expert to be Mr. Jack, and play someone that has NO IDEA what they are doing to be the detectives, and then you might have a small chance of getting away (and of course, to be fair, you need to each take a turn as Mr. Jack, otherwise the game is way to one sided). My other gripe is that games seem to be very repetitive, and its very difficult when you are Mr. Jack to actually effectively hide from 3 detectives. Right now the game has found a permanent spot on the shelf, but I may get it down in the future and make sure again that I'm not playing it wrong. Its not a terrible game, I just didn't seem to enjoy it as much as most people it seems.
